Topiram Tablet is an anti-epileptic medicine. It contains topiramate as the active substance. It is used for the management of epilepsy/fits. Epilepsy is a brain disorder that causes a temporary faul

t in the brain's electrical activity. This causes people to have seizures and convulsions. Topiram Tablet is also used to prevent migraine headaches in adults. It works by stopping the abnormal excitation of brain cells in a part of the brain or the whole brain and, in turn, stops the generation of seizures. Take this medicine in the exact dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more than the recommended dose. Do not stop taking this medicine on your own. Before starting Topiram Tablet, inform the doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about your detailed medical history.

It is also used for the prevention of migraine headaches in adults.

Contraindications of Topiram 50 MG

If you are allergic to topiramate or any of the other ingredients of Topiram Tablet.
For migraine prevention: if you are pregnant or capable of having children and not using effective methods of birth control.

Pregnancy

Can I take Topiram Tablet during pregnancy?

Topiram Tablet can be used in pregnant women only if recommended by the doctor. Women capable of having children should use effective methods of birth control during treatment with this medicine. If you become pregnant while on the treatment with Topiram Tablet immediately inform your doctor.

Breast Feeding

Can I take Topiram Tablet while breastfeeding?

Topiram Tablet may pass into human breast milk. Thus, your doctor will decide whether to discontinue breastfeeding or discontinue the medicine based on the need and the risk.

Driving

Can I drive if I have consumed Topiram Tablet?

Topiram Tablet may cause drowsiness and dizziness. If you experience any of these effects after taking this medicine that may affect your ability to drive safely, it is advised to avoid driving.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with Topiram Tablet?

Drinking alcohol while on Topiram Tablet can increase sleepiness, tiredness, and other side effects of this medicine. Therefore avoid alcohol consumption while on this medicine.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if

You have liver or kidney problems such as kidney stones.
You have metabolic acidosis (body fluid and blood abnormality).
You have glaucoma (an eye disorder).
You are pregnant or a woman of childbearing age not using any methods of birth control.
You are taking any other medicine containing topiramate.
You have suicidal thoughts or harming yourself after taking this medicine.
You lose weight after taking this medicine.

Directions for Use of Topiram 50 MG

Topiram Tablet should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor.
Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water.
Do not cut, break or chew the medicine.
It would be best if you took it at a fixed time for optimal results.
Do not consume more than the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Interactions of Topiram 50 MG

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Topiram Tablet works or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
Concomitant use of Topiram Tablet with medicines used in brain diseases such as phenytoin or carbamazepine, herbal preparations of St John's wort may decrease the blood concentration of this medicine.
Taking this medicine with valproic acid can cause a decrease in body temperature.

Storage and disposal of Topiram 50 MG

Store Topiram Tablet at a temperature not above 25°C in a cool and dry place.
Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

Dosage of Topiram 50 MG

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose of Topiram Tablet include sleepiness, blurring of vision, dizziness, low mood, etc.
If you have taken too much of this medicine then contact your doctor or reach out to the nearest hospital immediately.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed taking any dose of Topiram Tablet, then take it as soon as you remember.
If it's already time for the next dose then skip the missed dose and follow the regular dosing schedule.
Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.
