Telma Ct 40/12.5mg Strip Of 15 Tablets Description

Telma CT 40/12.5 mg tablet is used to lower the raised blood pressure when it cannot be managed using a single component medicine. It is a combination medicine containing chlorthalidone and telmisart

an. It is broadly classified as an antihypertensive medication. It acts by relaxing the blood vessels and increasing diuresis, which acts in a synergistic manner to lower the raised blood pressure. Telma CT 40/12.5 mg tablet should not be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women. Do not abruptly stop taking this medicine as it may cause a sudden hypertensive crisis and worsen the health further. Always take it as prescribed and advised by your doctor. Before using this medicine, inform the doctor about your detailed medical history.

Telma CT 40/12.5 mg tablet is used to treat high blood pressure

Contraindications of Telma Ct 40/12.5mg Strip Of 15 Tablets

If you are allergic to telmisartan or chlorthalidone or any other ingredients of Telma CT 40/12.5 mg tablet.
If you are allergic to antibiotics like Sulfasalazine and any other drugs from this class.
If you are a pregnant & breastfeeding women.
If you have serious liver disorders and problems related to the bile duct (a canal connecting the liver to the intestine) like cholestasis.
If you feel difficulty in passing urine or passing no urine at all (anuria).
If your blood test shows a significant increase in calcium and decrease in potassium levels.
If you have diabetes or kidney problems and you are taking medicines for lowering the blood pressure like Aliskiren.

How Does It Work?

Telmisartan lowers blood pressure by blocking the action of a hormone called angiotensin, responsible for narrowing the blood vessels and rise in blood pressure.
Chlorthalidone acts by increasing the production of urine and loss of water and salt from the body, thereby lowering the blood pressure.

Chlorthalidone is more potent and longer-acting compared to Chlorothiazide. Chlorthalidone is commonly used for the treatment of high blood pressure and oedema (fluid overload) associated with the heart, kidney or liver diseases or due to other medications.

Q: Is there anything else I need to know before taking Telma CT 40/12.5 mg tablet?

A: Serum electrolytes should be regularly monitored while on treatment with Telma CT 40/12.5 mg tablet because it may alter blood potassium, sodium and chloride levels. Renal function also needs to be monitored closely as this medicine can compromise the functioning of kidneys in some patients. This medicine should not be used in children and adolescents below 18 years of age.
