Medical Description
Telkonol AM tablet is an antihypertensive medication prescribed to manage high blood pressure. This combination medicine contains telmisartan and amlodipine as its active ingredients, working together to relax blood vessels and improve the heart's efficiency in pumping blood. Amlodipine achieves this by inhibiting calcium entry into heart and blood vessel cells, thereby relaxing the arteries, while telmisartan blocks the formation of angiotensin II, a chemical that tightens blood vessels. This combined action helps lower your blood pressure, which is crucial for preventing serious health issues. You should take this medicine exactly as instructed by your doctor, with or without food, and try to maintain a consistent time for intake each day.
You must inform your doctor about all other medicines, supplements, or herbal preparations you are currently taking, as Telkonol AM tablet can interact with various medications, including other blood pressure-lowering medications, heart-related medications such as digoxin, certain antifungals, antibiotics, and painkillers.Tell your doctor if you have any history of liver or kidney disease, heart problems, or heart failure, as the dosage may need adjustment, and close monitoring may be required.
A key consideration during your treatment is maintaining a moderate intake of potassium. Telkonol AM tablets can increase blood potassium levels, so you should avoid potassium supplements and limit high-potassium foods, such as spinach, potatoes, mushrooms, peas, and bananas. Limit your salt intake by avoiding foods with excess salt, such as pickles and packaged chips. It is beneficial to incorporate a low-salt diet and regular exercise into your daily routine. Ensure you drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily. Your doctor may request regular blood potassium and kidney function tests to monitor your health during treatment.
Telkonol AM tablet is not safe for use if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, as it may seriously harm the fetus. If you are planning to conceive, your doctor will likely switch you to an alternative medicine. If you are breastfeeding, an alternative treatment should be preferred as the safety of this medicine in this situation is unknown. Also, be aware that this medicine may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when changing positions (from lying to sitting/standing). Therefore, be cautious when driving or operating machinery. While there's no known interaction with alcohol, it's generally advised to avoid it during treatment as it could cause adverse effects.
