Stalopam 5 mg tablet is a prescription medication commonly used for treating major depressive and panic disorders, with or without agoraphobia (fear of open spaces or crowded places). The active ingr

edient in Stalopam 5 mg tablets is escitalopram. Escitalopram is an antidepressant medicine. The mode of action of Stalopam 5 mg tablets is by increasing a chemical substance in the brain, which is responsible for elevating the mood, improving energy, and reducing nervousness. Stalopam tablets help stabilise the mood by reducing the excess activity of the nerves in the brain. It produces a calming effect and sedation. The dose of Stalopam tablets should be carefully monitored, especially in older adults and patients with liver and kidney disorders. Even though it does not cause physical dependency, this medicine can cause psychological dependency if taken long. As per CDSCO, Stalopam 5 mg tablet is used for:
Managing the symptoms of major depressive disorders (persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest in life)
Treatment of panic disorders (type of an anxiety disorder), with or without agoraphobia (fear of open and crowded places)

Contraindications of Stalopam 5 MG

Do not take Stalopam 5 mg tablets, or take with caution:
If you are allergic to any of the components of the Stalopam 5 mg tablet.
If you are using other antidepressant medications; combined with this medicine, it can cause exaggerated side effects.
If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy.
If you are breastfeeding.
If you have a history of addictive tendencies; this medicine may cause psychological dependency.
If you are already using other anti-anxiety medicines or sedatives; they can interfere with the functioning of this medicine and cause adverse reactions.
If you have angle-closure glaucoma.
If you have liver disease.
If you are a child under 12; this medicine is not meant for children unless advised by the doctor.
