Medical Description

Scaboma Plus lotion is an externally applied medicine used to treat scabies and head-lice infestations. It contains permethrin, which kills mites, lice and their eggs by disturbing their nerve function. Clearing the parasites can reduce the itching and irritation caused by these infestations, although itching may continue briefly after treatment. Scaboma Plus lotion is applied to the skin or scalp only as directed, kept away from the eyes and other mucous membranes, and washed off after the period advised by a doctor.

Uses

  • Scabies: Kills mites and their eggs that cause an intensely itchy rash and can spread through close contact.
  • Head lice: Kills lice and their eggs on the scalp when used exactly as advised.
  • Infestation-related itching: Clearing mites or lice may reduce the itching and skin irritation caused by the infestation.
  • Reinfestation prevention: Treating close contacts and cleaning clothing, towels and bedding as advised may reduce the chance of parasites returning.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use Scaboma Plus lotion if you have a known allergy to permethrin, pyrethroids or chrysanthemums. Ask a doctor before applying it to severely inflamed, broken or secondarily infected skin.

Side effects

  • Itching: The infestation or temporary irritation can keep the skin itchy after application; seek review if it worsens or does not settle after treatment.
  • Burning: Permethrin can briefly irritate sensitive skin and cause heat or discomfort; wash it off and contact your doctor if severe.
  • Stinging: A prickling sensation may occur at the application site; rinse the area if it becomes intense or persistent.
  • Tingling or numbness: Local nerve irritation can cause pins and needles or reduced sensation; wash the area and seek advice if it persists.
  • Skin irritation or allergic reaction: Treated skin may become red, dry or irritated; swelling of the face, lips or throat or breathing difficulty needs emergency medical help.

How does this medicine work?

Permethrin affects the nerve function of mites and lice, causing paralysis and death. It also acts against their eggs, helping interrupt the infestation cycle. The medicine works mainly on the treated skin, with little absorption when used correctly.
