Medical Description

Rest-Aid Forte tablet is used under medical advice to relieve nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. It contains a combination of doxylamine succinate, pyridoxine, which is vitamin B6, and folic acid, which is vitamin B9. Doxylamine is an antihistamine that helps reduce signals involved in nausea, while pyridoxine supports vitamin B6-dependent body processes and folic acid supports cell growth and early development. The tablet is swallowed whole with water, preferably on an empty stomach if advised, and is intended for pregnancy-related sickness.

Pregnancy

Rest-Aid Forte is intended for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, but use it only when prescribed by your doctor. Follow the pregnancy-care plan provided to you.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Breastfeeding is not recommended while using Rest-Aid Forte unless your doctor specifically confirms it is safe, because doxylamine may pass into milk and make a breastfed baby sleepy or irritable.

Driving

Driving

Do not drive, cycle or operate machinery if you feel sleepy, dizzy or less alert after taking Rest-Aid Forte.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Do not drink alcohol with Rest-Aid Forte because it can greatly increase drowsiness and impair alertness.

Storage and disposal

Store Rest-Aid Forte in a clean, dry place protected from heat, sunlight and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date and ask a pharmacist how to dispose of unused tablets.

Quick Tips

  • Take Rest-Aid Forte only under pregnancy-care supervision.
  • Avoid alcohol and other medicines that make you sleepy.
  • Do not drive until you know how the tablet affects your alertness.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much may cause extreme sleepiness, confusion, agitation, fast heartbeat or seizures. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The doxylamine component is an antihistamine that blocks histamine signals involved in nausea and vomiting. Pyridoxine restores vitamin B6 needed for normal body processes and may help reduce pregnancy-related sickness. Folic acid supports cell division, blood-cell formation and early development of the baby's brain and spinal cord.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Rest-Aid Forte works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, sleeping medicines, barbiturates, opioid pain medicines, cough or cold medicines and sedating antihistamines may increase drowsiness. Pyridoxine may reduce the effects of levodopa, phenobarbital or phenytoin, and you should also mention any blood thinners.

Interactions with food items

Food may change how quickly Rest-Aid Forte works. Follow your doctor's instructions about taking it on an empty stomach and do not change this without asking.
