Medical Description

Razumab solution for injection is used by an eye specialist to treat diabetic eye disease, wet age-related macular degeneration, and swelling in the retina after a retinal vein blockage. Its active ingredient is ranibizumab, a biological medicine that blocks vascular endothelial growth factor, a protein that can make abnormal blood vessels grow and leak. By reducing this abnormal growth and leakage, ranibizumab helps protect the retina and central vision. Razumab injection is given into the affected eye by a trained eye specialist in a clinic or hospital and must not be self-injected.

  • Diabetic eye disease: High blood sugar can damage retinal blood vessels and cause swelling or leakage; ranibizumab helps limit this damage and vision loss.
  • Wet age-related macular degeneration: Abnormal blood vessels can leak beneath the retina and harm central vision; ranibizumab helps slow this process.
  • Macular swelling after retinal vein blockage: A blocked retinal vein can cause fluid buildup and blurred central vision; treatment helps reduce the swelling.

Dosage

Overdose

An excessive amount injected into the eye may raise eye pressure or worsen eye symptoms. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The active ingredient, ranibizumab, blocks a protein that encourages abnormal blood vessels in the eye to grow and leak. This reduces leakage and fluid buildup in the retina. As a result, the eye specialist can manage retinal swelling and help protect central vision.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way the Razumab injection works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, tell your eye specialist about other eye treatments and medicines that affect bleeding or blood pressure before the injection.
