Prodep 10mg Capsule is a prescription medicine mainly used to treat depression. Depression is a mood disorder characterised by sadness, mood swings and feelings of hopelessness. Further, Prodep Capsu
le helps in the treatment of other conditions like major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bulimia nervosa, panic disorder and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterised by extreme overeating followed by fasting or self-vomiting. Prodep Capsule contains Fluoxetine as the active ingredient. It belongs to the antidepressants class of medicine called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI). Fluoxetine helps increase serotonin levels in the brain, improving patients’ mood, relieving anxiety and tension, and helping people recover from depression. There are also many side effects associated with this medicine, so it is advised to take it after the doctor’s consultation, and dosage must be carefully monitored. Prodep 10mg Capsule should be taken in dosage and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it can cause clinical worsening of your condition or may lead to withdrawal symptoms.

Uses of Prodep 10 MG
- Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder.
- Treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
- Treatment of panic disorder with or without agoraphobia (fear of places)
- Treatment of Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
Contraindications of Prodep 10 MG
- If you are allergic to Fluoxetine or any other ingredients present in Prodep Capsule.
- If you are taking other antidepressants like Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOI).
- If you are taking other medicines like thioridazine, pimozide, including linezolid or methylene blue.
- If you have suicidal thoughts.
- If you are a pregnant or breastfeeding mother.
- If you have a heart problem (arrhythmia).
- If you have glaucoma (increase the pressure in the eye)
- If you have a history of epilepsy or fits.

Mode of Action of Prodep 10 MG
How Does It Work?
Prodep 10mg Capsule contains Fluoxetine. It primarily acts on a chemical messenger or neurotransmitter in the brain called Serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical messenger responsible for improving mood, behaviour, cognitive abilities and memory.
Fluoxetine (active ingredient) mainly works by inhibiting the reabsorption of Serotonin in serotonin neurons by blocking the reabsorption transporter protein. This causes accumulation of Serotonin, thereby directly affecting the improvement of mood and other symptoms the patient may be facing....
Directions for Use of Prodep 10 MG
- Take Prodep Capsule exactly as prescribed by the doctor.
- Take this medication on a regular schedule, preferably at the same time every day.
- Take the tablets as a whole with a full glass of water. Do not break the capsule or chew this medicine.
- You can take the Prodep Capsule before food or after, or as prescribed by your doctor.
- Do not exceed the recommended dosage as it can lead to overdose.
- Do not stop using it abruptly, as it may lead to withdrawal symptoms.
Interactions of Prodep 10 MG
Interactions with other medicines
- Interaction with Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and Serotonergic medicines like Linezolid, Methylene Blue, Triptans and Tramadol can cause serotonin syndrome; When the body has too much Serotonin....
- Interaction with metoprolol can inhibit the metabolism of metoprolol and cause excessive bradycardia (slow heart rate).
- Interaction with antipsychotics (Pimozide, Haloperidol), Tricyclic antidepressants and Antihistamines can affect heart functioning.
- Interaction with oral anticoagulants like aspirin NSAID (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs ) can increase the risk of bleeding.
Interactions with food items
- You can continue with the usual diet as food doesn’t influence the effect of the Prodep Capsule. However, Avoid consuming this medicine with cola drinks, chocolates and caffeine-containing food items as it can result in serotonin syndrome (high levels of Serotonin)....
- Speak with your doctor about any supplements or herbal drinks you are currently taking before using this medicine.
Storage and disposal of Prodep 10 MG
Store Prodep Capsule at room temperature in a cool and dry area, away from sunlight. Keep the medication away from children and pet animals in a closed or locked cabinet. Do not remove the medicine from its packing and store it within its original packaging.
Disposal- Do not flush medicines down into the toilet or throw them into the dustbin unless instructed to do so. Medicines disposed of in this manner may pollute or contaminate the environment. Properly dispose of this product when it is expired or no longer required....

Overdose
Overdose of Prodep Capsule can lead to toxicity or poisoning. Overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, seizures, respiratory dysfunction, and signs of altered central nervous system status ranging from excitation to coma. Seek emergency medical treatment or contact your doctor immediately....
Missed a Dose
Missed doses of Prodep Capsule should be taken right away unless it is almost time for the next dose. In that case, you should skip the forgotten dose (rather than taking a double dose) or call your doctor for further instructions. Do not take both doses at once as it can lead to overdose...

A: Prodep Capsule takes up to four weeks for onset of action. It is not suggested to increase the dose of this medication on your own. Please consult your doctors if you have any further queries about it.
