Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Patinex Ls tablet is a combination of two medicines: Paroxetine and Clonazepam. Paroxetine is a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI). It acts on brain pathways involving the chemical messenger serotonin. It prevents the reabsorption of serotonin, leading to its increased levels in the brain. Serotonin helps in regulating mood, personality, and wakefulness. Blocking serotonin reuptake is beneficial in disorders such as depression. Besides this, paroxetine also has minimal effect in preventing the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine, contributing to the antidepressant effects of paroxetine. Clonazepam belongs to the benzodiazepine group of medicines. Clonazepam acts by increasing gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA is a neurotransmitter that inhibits brain activity by reducing neuronal excitability. This causes sedation, calming effects, muscle relaxation etc. Clonazepam also increases serotonin levels. This helps in the treatment of anxiety.
