Medical Description

Moclox Kid tablet is a combination antibiotic used in children for certain bacterial infections of the ear, sinuses, tonsils, teeth, lungs, skin and urinary tract. It contains amoxicillin and cloxacillin, which both stop susceptible bacteria from building the protective cell wall they need to survive. Cloxacillin can remain active against some bacteria that produce enzymes which weaken related penicillin antibiotics, while amoxicillin adds antibacterial coverage. Moclox Kid tablet is given by mouth as a whole tablet under adult supervision and medical advice, and it should not be used for viral colds or flu.

Uses

  • Ear infections: Certain bacterial infections of the middle ear can cause pain, fever or reduced hearing and may be treated with this medicine.
  • Sinus or tonsil infections: Susceptible bacterial infections affecting the sinuses or tonsils may improve when the infection is treated.
  • Dental abscesses: Bacterial infection around a tooth or gum, including some abscesses, may require this antibiotic after dental assessment.
  • Pneumonia: Selected bacterial infections in the lungs may be treated with amoxicillin and cloxacillin under a doctor's supervision.
  • Skin infections: Bacterial infections such as cellulitis can cause red, warm and tender skin; this combination may treat susceptible bacteria.
  • Urinary tract infections: Certain bacterial infections of the urinary system may be treated when prescribed for the child.

Dosage

Overdose

If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Amoxicillin stops bacteria from making the protective cell wall they need to survive. Cloxacillin also blocks bacterial cell-wall formation and can remain active against some bacteria that produce enzymes which weaken related penicillin antibiotics. Without a strong cell wall, susceptible bacteria break down and die.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Moclox Kid tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements the child takes. In particular, tell the doctor about other antibiotics, medicines for gout such as probenecid, blood thinners such as warfarin, medicines that affect the immune system such as methotrexate, and oral hormonal contraceptives so the combination can be checked safely.
