Medical Description
Metolar XR 25 capsule is a blood pressure reducing medicine. It is used to treat high blood pressure. It is also used for the treatment of various other heart-related conditions such as angina (chest pain) and heart failure. Metolar XR 25 capsule contains metoprolol as its active ingredient. This medicine has action specific to the heart muscles. Do not abruptly stop taking this medicine. You should take this medicine for the prescribed dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Before starting the treatment with Metolar XR 25 capsule, inform the doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding and about your detailed medical history.
Uses
- Metolar XR 25 capsule is used to treat high blood pressure mainly, along with certain heart conditions such as angina (chest pain) and heart failure.
- It also helps prevent other conditions like stroke, heart attack and migraine.
Contraindications
- If you have an allergy to metoprolol or any of the ingredients of Metolar XR 25 capsule.
- If you have any heart condition such as heart block, uncontrolled heart failure.
- If you have asthma or any lung condition.
- If you have low blood pressure, diabetes.
- If you have renal or liver disease.
- If you have an electrolyte imbalance, acid-base imbalance.
- If you have a decreased heart rate.
- If you are on medication like Verapamil, Diltiazem, Disopyramide (heart medicine).

- You have asthma, skin disorder like psoriasis, blood circulation problem, overactive thyroid or any other pre-existing health condition.
- You have diabetes, caution is required, Metoprolol may cause low blood sugar levels and also change the body’s response to low blood sugar. You may not experience warning signs of low blood sugar such as an increase in heart rate, sweating, hunger pangs, headache, etc.
- You have a tumour of adrenal gland tissue (Pheochromocytoma).
- You are suffering from a type of chest pain (Prinzmetal’s angina)
- You recently had any heart attack, chest pain or heart surgery

- Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water.
- Do not cut, break or chew the medicine.
- It is advisable to take the medicine at a fixed time for optimal results.
- You should not consume more than the dose prescribed by your doctor.

- In particular, if you are taking any pain killers, other antihypertensive medicines, anti-tuberculosis medicines like Rifampicin, anti-allergic medicine like Hydralazine, anaesthetic like Lidocaine, medicines for erectile dysfunction, medicines for mood and sleeping disorders, antidiabetic medicine like Insulin, etc.
