Librium tablet transfers through the placenta and shows an increased risk of congenital malformations (cleft palate, cleft lip)and potential side effects on the foetus if taken during the first trimester of pregnancy. Infants of mothers who took Librium for a longer time or during the late phase of pregnancy show withdrawal symptoms such as hypoactivity, decreased body temperature, respiratory depression, apnea, feeding problems during the postnatal period. Always consult the clinician before taking medications in pregnancy.
