Medical Description

Indocin D eye/ear drop is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye or ear accompanied by inflammation. It is a combination medicine containing ofloxacin (an antibiotic) and dexamethasone (a steroid), which together stop bacterial growth and reduce swelling.

Contraindications

Do not use if allergic to ofloxacin, dexamethasone, or other ingredients. Avoid in viral infections (such as herpes simplex of the eye), fungal infections, or untreated parasitic infections of the eye or ear, as the steroid may worsen these conditions. Do not use if you have a perforated eardrum without consulting your doctor.

Do not drive or operate machinery immediately after using this eye/ear drop, as it may cause temporary blurred vision. Wait until your vision is clear.

Alcohol does not interact with this eye/ear drop. However, avoid driving if you have consumed alcohol.

Directions for Use

Wash your hands before use. For eye use: tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid gently, and instil the prescribed number of drops into the pocket. Close your eyes for 1-2 minutes. For ear use: lie on your side and instil the prescribed number of drops into the ear canal. Do not touch the dropper tip to your eye, ear, or surrounding areas to prevent contamination. Use this eye/ear drop for the duration advised by your doctor.

Storage and disposal

Store the eye/ear drop in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of the reach of children. Discard the bottle 4 weeks after opening, even if medicine remains. Do not use after the expiry date.

  • Do not skip doses, and use this eye/ear drop for as long as your doctor has advised.
  • Do not wear contact lenses while treating an active eye infection.
  • Temporary mild blurriness after instillation is normal and should clear in a few minutes.
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery until your vision is clear.
  • If dropper contamination occurs, wipe with a clean tissue and monitor the eye closely.
  • For eye infections, use the medication in the affected eye only unless directed otherwise.

Dosage

Accidental ingestion or use in excess of the recommended dose may cause mild nausea or diarrhea. If you think you have used too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Ofloxacin is an antibiotic that stops the growth of bacteria causing the infection. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, redness, swelling, and discomfort. The combination provides both antibacterial action and anti-inflammatory relief.
