Directions for Use

Take this medicine as a whole with sufficient water. It is best taken as advised by your doctor. Try not to take it at the same time as tea, coffee, milk or calcium supplements, as these lower how well iron is absorbed. Do not crush or chew the tablet.

Storage and disposal

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, ideally below 30 degrees Celsius. Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children, as too much iron is dangerous for young children. Do not use the tablet after its expiry date, and throw away any unused medicine safely.

Quick Tips

  • Take the tablet with a source of vitamin C, such as citrus fruit or amla, to help absorb the iron.
  • Keep a gap between this tablet and tea, coffee, milk or calcium supplements.
  • Iron-rich foods such as spinach, beetroot, dates and legumes support your levels.
  • Dark stools while taking iron are normal and harmless.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much iron can cause severe stomach pain, vomiting and dark stools, and it is especially dangerous for children. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Ihem tablet supplies iron, a mineral the body cannot make on its own. Iron is a key part of haemoglobin, the substance inside red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. By restocking iron, the tablet helps the body make more healthy red blood cells and can ease the tiredness and weakness that come with low iron.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Ihem tablet works, and it can affect how other medicines work. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and herbal products you are taking. In particular, mention any antacid for stomach acid, any thyroid medicine, or certain antibiotics, and keep a gap of a few hours between them and this medicine.

Interactions with food items

Tea, coffee, milk and dairy products lower the amount of iron your body takes in, so keep a gap between them and Ihem tablet. Foods and drinks rich in vitamin C, such as orange, lemon or amla, help your body absorb more iron.
