Medical Description
Headon Injection is used to treat children who have experienced growth failure due to insufficient secretion of endogenous growth hormone (GH). It can also be used to address low stature in adults. The most common side effects of this medication include injection site reactions, headaches, and rashes. If these concern you or appear serious, consult your doctor.
Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you have ever had diabetes or a thyroid problem. Your doctor should also be aware of any other medications you are taking, as many of them may reduce the effectiveness of this medication or alter its mechanism of action.
Uses
- For the treatment of patients who have growth failure due to growth hormone deficiency.
- Long-term treatment of growth failure associated with chronic renal insufficiency up to the time of renal transplant and patients suffering from Turner's syndrome.
Contraindications
- Allergy to somatotropin or any of the components in the formulation
- Closed epiphyses (growth plates)
- Active malignancy
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Prader-Willi syndrome with severe obesity or severe respiratory impairment
- Acute critical illness
Side effects
- Joint pain
- Water retention (evidenced by puffy fingers or swollen ankles)
- Temporary redness, itchiness, or pain at the injection site
- Numbness or tingling
- Rash
- Itching
- Raised itchy bumps on the skin
- Pain or burning sensation in the hands or underarms (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome)
- Stiffness in the arms and legs, muscle pain
- Breast enlargement (gynecomastia)
- Type 2 diabetes
- Facial swelling
- Decreased levels of the hormone cortisol in the blood
- Leukaemia
- Increased intracranial pressure (causing symptoms like severe headache, visual disturbances, or vomiting)
