Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. Iron and folate may be needed, but the total amount from all supplements should be reviewed.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. The doctor can confirm the appropriate supplement and assess the baby's needs.

Driving

Driving

This supplement is not expected to affect driving. Do not drive if nausea or weakness makes you unwell.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Avoid heavy alcohol use because it can worsen poor nutrition and stomach irritation.

Directions for Use

Swallow the tablet whole with sufficient water. Take it with food if it irritates your stomach, but follow your pharmacist's advice because some foods reduce iron absorption. Do not crush or chew it.

Storage and disposal

Store in the original pack in a cool, dry place away from heat and moisture. Keep out of reach of children because iron overdose can be fatal. Dispose of expired tablets safely.

Quick Tips

  • Dark stools can occur with iron, but report tar-like stools or bleeding.
  • Keep the tablets securely away from children.
  • Eat iron-rich foods as advised by your healthcare team.
  • Keep blood tests arranged to check the response to treatment.

Dosage

Overdose

An overdose may cause severe stomach pain, repeated vomiting, bloody diarrhoea, drowsiness, or collapse, especially in a child. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

Take a missed tablet when remembered unless the next scheduled tablet is near. If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Iron helps make haemoglobin for oxygen transport. Folic acid and cobalamin support red blood cell formation and normal cell growth, while zinc supports immune function and tissue repair.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way this supplement is absorbed or can increase mineral levels. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take. In particular, if you are taking thyroid medicine, certain antibiotics, antacids, medicines for bone health, or another iron product.

Interactions with food items

Tea, coffee, milk, and calcium-rich products can reduce iron absorption. Ask your pharmacist how to separate them from the tablet. Food may reduce nausea.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Iron commonly darkens stools. Tell your doctor if stools are tar-like, sticky, or accompanied by pain or bleeding.
Tea can reduce iron absorption. Ask a pharmacist how to separate tea, coffee, milk, and calcium products from the tablet.
An iron overdose can cause life-threatening poisoning in children, so the tablets must be stored securely.
