Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Iron and folic acid supplementation is often recommended during pregnancy to prevent anaemia and support fetal development. Consult your doctor about the appropriate dose for your pregnancy.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Iron and folic acid are safe during breastfeeding. Small amounts may pass into breast milk but are generally considered safe for the nursing infant.

Driving

Driving

This medicine does not affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Excessive alcohol consumption may reduce iron absorption and increase the risk of stomach irritation. Limit alcohol intake while taking this medicine.

Directions for Use

Take this medicine as directed by your doctor. Swallow the capsule as a whole with sufficient water. For better absorption, take it on an empty stomach or with a light meal. If stomach upset occurs, take it with food. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Storage and disposal

Store this medicine at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children, as iron overdose in children can be serious. Do not use after the expiry date. Discard safely according to local regulations.

Quick Tips

  • Dark-colored or black stools are normal when taking iron supplements and do not indicate a problem.
  • Iron absorption is better when taken with vitamin C-rich foods like citrus fruits or tomatoes.
  • Separate the intake of this medicine from calcium supplements and certain antibiotics by at least 2 hours.
  • If constipation occurs, increase water intake and fibre in your diet or consult your doctor for management.

Dosage

Overdose

Overdose of iron can be serious, especially in children. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and dark-colored stools. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed a dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Iron is essential for the formation of red blood cells and oxygen transport throughout the body. Folic acid (vitamin B9) supports red blood cell production and cell division. The other vitamins provide additional nutritional support for various bodily functions.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can reduce the absorption of iron. Tell your doctor about all medicines you are taking. In particular, certain antibiotics, thyroid medicines, and calcium supplements should be taken at different times from this medicine.

Interactions with food items

Iron absorption is better on an empty stomach but may cause nausea. If this occurs, take with food. Avoid consuming tea or coffee with this medicine, as they can reduce iron absorption.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Dark or black stools are a normal side effect of iron supplements and indicate that the iron is working. This is not a cause for concern. However, if stools are accompanied by abdominal pain or other symptoms, consult your doctor.
Continue taking this medicine as directed by your doctor. Anaemia treatment typically requires several months of regular supplementation. Your doctor may adjust the duration based on your blood test results.
