Raised uric acid levels in the body cause gout. This medicine blocks the enzyme which is required in the synthesis of uric acid.

  • Mercaptopurine (used to treat cancer)
  • Azathioprine (used to reduce immune response)
  • Theophylline (used to treat asthma)

Meat and beef should be avoided as these foods increase uric acid levels in the body. Also, drinking ample amount of water is advised.
