Exil syrup is a combination of medication used to treat cough, allergic reactions, sore throat and itching. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the treatment. Store the medication in a cool and dry place. Make sure to keep it away from children and pets. Do not take more than the prescribed dose. If you have taken more than the prescribed dose and experience symptoms of overdose, contact your doctor immediately or rush to the nearest hospital.

How Does It Work?

Exil syrup contains ammonium chloride, which acts as an expectorant; the medicine works as an expectorant and reduces the thickness of the airway secretions; this helps in clearing out the airways. Diphenhydramine is an anti-allergic medicine that prevents allergic reactions such as watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose and sore throat. It mainly works on the histamine receptors and prevents the action of inflammatory mediators.

Interactions with other medicines

  • Exil syrup should not be used with MAO inhibitors as it may cause serotonin syndrome
  • Concomitant use of this medicine with other anti-allergic drugs like atropine, and codeine may alter the effects of this medication
  • This syrup must be used with caution with antidepressants
  • Using diphenhydramine with pregabalin may increase side effects such as dizziness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating
  • Metoprolol, when co-administered with diphenhydramine, may have additive effects in lowering blood pressure
  • Other medicines like Amitriptyline, doxepin, and ephedrine should be used with caution

Other general Interactions

This medication should be used cautiously in patients suffering from liver disease. Do not use this medication if you are on any sedative medicine.
