Esomac Inj is an antireflux proton pump inhibitor, which belongs to the group of medicines that reduces the acid production in the stomach. The generic name of Esomac Inj is Esomeprazole.
Uses of Esomac Inj
Esomac Inj uses are to treat stomach ulcer, Helicobacter pylori infection (with antibiotics), heartburn and gastritis, and to prevent cancer arising in the oesophagus.
Contraindications of Esomac Inj
- Allergic to this medication.
- Allergic to medicines containing proton pump inhibitors such as pantoprazole, lanzoprazole, rabeprazole and omeprazole.
- Medicines used to treat HIV.
- In case of stomach cancer.
Side effects of Esomac Inj
Esomac Inj side effects are stomachache, nausea or vomiting, headache, constipation or diarrhoea with flatulence, allergic reactions, skin rash and some serious but rare side effects of blistering of skin and erosion of nose, mouth, lips and genitals (Steven–Johnson syndrome) and sensitivity to light.

Can I take Esomac Inj during pregnancy?
The safety of this drug during pregnancy is not established and should not be taken. Your doctor will better guide you as per your condition.
Can I take Esomac Inj while breastfeeding?
There are insufficient medical data that establish the safety of this drug during breastfeeding. Your doctor will better guide you as per your condition.
Can I drive if I have taken Esomac Inj?
This medication has negligible influence on the ability to drive. In case of any side effects such as drowsiness or blurred vision, kindly avoid driving or the operation of tools and machinery.
Can I consume alcohol after I have taken Esomac Inj?
There are no known interactions of this medication with alcohol; however, the consumption of alcoholic beverages in large quantities may result in acidity and heartburn; hence, kindly avoid the intake of alcoholic beverages in large quantities.

Interactions with other medicines
Esomac Inj for stomach ulcer is reported to have interactions with drugs such as Iitraconazole, ketoconazole (used in the treatment of fungal infections) or erlotinib, methotrexate, etc. (use in the treatment of certain types of cancers) and with medicines to treat HIV such as nelfinavir/tenofovir/atazanavir, rilpivirine, etc.

There are no known interactions of this medicine with food.
Other general Interactions
This medicine is to be avoided if you had stomach surgery, liver and kidneys problems; are more than 55 years of age and need to take this medication for a long term. Do not self-medicate with this medication and always seek the suggestion of medical experts. Do not use this medicine and contact your health care expert if you get rashes on exposure to sun while on its medication.
Storage and disposal of Esomac Inj
Store this medication in a closed container and away from the sight and reach of children. Do not use this medication post the expiration date mentioned on it. Do not store this medication at temperatures exceeding 25°C. Follow the proper medical waste management protocol in the disposal of this medication.
Dosage of Esomac Inj
Esomac Inj dosage is for the administration by health care experts only. Overdose is known to cause nausea, dryness of mouth, headache, drowsiness, etc. Immediate medical attention is strongly suggested in case of overdose.
