Medical Description

Dipal 5mg Tab contains Amlodipine, which belongs to the class of medications called calcium channel blockers.

Uses of Dipal 5mg Tab

Dipal 5mg Tab is used to treat high blood pressure and a type of chest pain (Angina).

Contraindications of Dipal 5mg Tab

  • If you are allergic to this medicine or any other ingredients of this medicine
  • If you have low blood pressure
  • If you have abnormal narrowing of aorta heart valve (Aortic stenosis)
  • If you are suffering from a condition where your heart is unable to supply blood to your body (Cardiogenic Shock)
  • If you are suffering from heart failure after a heart attack

Side effects of Dipal 5mg Tab

  • Swelling of feet, ankles, legs (Oedema or fluid retention)
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Sleepiness
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeats (palpitation)
  • Stomach ache
  • Feeling sick
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Indigestion
  • Weakness
  • Tiredness
  • Muscle cramps

Pregnancy

Breast Feeding

  • Amlodipine passes into breastmilk. However, the effect of this medicine on infants is not known

Driving

Can I drive if I have consumed Dipal 5mg Tab?
A:
  • This medicine may affect your ability to drive
  • If you feel sick, dizzy, tired or have a headache, you should be cautious while driving, especially at the start of the treatment

Alcohol

Q:
Can I consume alcohol with Dipal 5mg Tab?
A:
Excessive alcohol consumption can raise the blood pressure; hence, caution is advised. You should avoid binge drinking of alcohol.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have liver disease
  • You recently had a heart attack or heart failure
  • You are elderly
  • You are suffering from a severe increase in blood pressure
  • You may suffer from heart attack, or your chest pain could worsen, when you start taking this medicine, however, this happens rarely

How Does It Work?

  • Dipal 5mg Tab works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels, thus making it easier for the blood to pass through the blood vessels and lowers the blood pressure
  • It also improves the blood and oxygen supply to heart muscle and prevents chest pain

Directions for Use of Dipal 5mg Tab

  • You can take this medicine with or even without food
  • Swallow each tablet with a glass of water
  • Take the pill as a whole, do not chew or crush the tablet

Interactions with other medicines

  • Medicine used to treat fungal infection like Ketoconazole
  • Any antibiotic like Rifampicin
  • Medicine used to treat HIV infection like Ritonavir
  • Medicine used to treat heart problems like Verapamil
  • Medicine used to decrease cholesterol level like Simvastatin
  • Medicine used to increase your immune system like Tacrolimus
  • Medicine used to suppress your immune system like Ciclosporin
  • Medicine used to relax muscles like Dantrolene

Interactions with food items

  • Grapefruit juice and grapefruit should not be consumed along with Dipal 5mg Tab, as these can cause a drastic drop in your blood pressure
  • If your doctor has advised you a low-salt or low-sodium diet, follow these directions carefully

Storage and disposal of Dipal 5mg Tab

  • Store it in a cool and dry place
  • Keep away from children
  • Check the expiry date before taking the medicine and do not use the medicine after the expiry date

Dosage of Dipal 5mg Tab

Overdose

  • You may experience dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting and weakness
  • There are chances of excessive lowering of blood pressure
  • You may become unconscious, and your skin may be cold and clammy
  • You must immediately report to an emergency medical care unit if you think you have taken more than the actual dose

Missed a Dose

  • If you miss any dose, take it as soon as you remember if there is sufficient time left for the next scheduled dose.
  • If it is time for the next dose, then skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
  • Do not compensate for the missed dose by taking an extra dose.
