Coxerin 250 MG Description

Coxerin is a prescription medication that belongs to a group of medicines known as antibiotics. The medication contains Cycloserine as its active ingredient. Coxerin capsules are used to treat drug-r

esistant tuberculosis and can be given in combination with other medicines. It is also used to treat renal or kidney diseases. Tuberculosis is a serious infection caused by bacteria that primarily affects the lungs and can spread from one person to another via air droplets. Coxerin capsules are prescribed when the patient fails to show any improvement in symptoms even after being treated by other antibiotics. The mode of action of Coxerin capsules is that it prevents the bacteria from forming their protective layer and hence kills them. Some common side effects of Coxerin capsules are tingling and numbness of the extremities, memory loss, confusion, dizziness, vomiting, headache, convulsion, anaemia etc.

If you are hypersensitive or allergic to Cycloserine, other antibiotics and other inactive substances present in the medication.
If you have a history of alcohol abuse.
If you have a history of seizures.
If you have a history of psychiatric problems and have experienced depression, severe anxiety or psychosis.

Can I take Coxerin capsules while breastfeeding?

No. Coxerin capsules are not recommended for mothers who are breastfeeding. The limited studies indicate that Coxerin capsules may pass into breast milk in small amounts. Hence, it is advised to consult your doctor if you need to take Coxerin capsules if you are breastfeeding

Can I drive if I have taken Coxerin capsules?

No. Coxerin capsules can cause side effects like blurry vision, confusion, and bouts of dizziness. It is advised to wait for a couple of hours before driving & operating heavy machinery after taking Coxerin capsules.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with the Coxerin capsules?

No. Consuming alcohol with Coxerin capsules is not advised. Mixing alcohol with Coxerin capsules can lead to adverse reactions, including fever, nausea, fatigue, upset stomach, and dizziness.

Directions for Use of Coxerin 250 MG

Coxerin capsules must be taken as and when directed by your doctor.
Take Coxerin capsules at the same time every day to ensure that a constant level of medication is maintained in the blood.
Swallow Coxerin capsules as a whole with a glass of water. Do not break, crush or chew the tablet; this can reduce its efficacy.
Coxerin capsules should be taken on an empty stomach and one or two hours before you have a meal. This is because food decreases the absorption of this medication.
Do not alter the dosage of Coxerin capsules without consulting with your doctor. Talk to your doctor if you feel that your prescribed dosage isn’t working for you.

Interactions of Coxerin 250 MG

Interactions with other medicines

Tramadol (pain medication similar to opioids that acts on the central nervous system) - leads to side effects like respiratory distress, seizure attack, irregular heart rhythm and coma.
Live Cholera vaccine (a live, weakened vaccine given to prevent and control the infection of cholera).
Bupropion (medication to treat major depressive disorder and seasonal affective disorder).
Fluphenazine (antipsychotic medication to treat schizophrenia, hallucinations, hostility and delusions).
Sodium bisphosphate (medication to treat constipation and clean bowel before colon surgery).

Interactions with food items

Food does not influence the effect of Coxerin capsules. So, a regular diet can be continued unless advised otherwise by the doctor.
Additionally, inform the doctor about any supplements or herbal drinks you take.
