Cycloserine is used to treat tuberculosis. It inhibits the formation of the outer sheath of bacteria and helps to treat tuberculosis.
Uses
Cycloserine is primarily used to treat tuberculosis in conjugation with other medicines for tuberculosis. It may also be recommended for urinary tract infections.
Contraindications
When should one not use Cycloserine
- Allergic reactions
- A disorder in which nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed (Epilepsy)
- Depression
- Severe anxiety
- Psychosis
- Decrease in the blood flow to the kidney (severe renal insufficiency)
- Concurrent usage of alcohol

How Does It Work?
Cycloserine works by preventing the growth of certain type of bracterias (Gram-positive and Gram-negative) and also Mycobacterium tuberculosis (bacteria that causes tuberculosis).

Interactions with other medicines
Before you start a treatment with Cycloserine, make sure to inform your doctor and healthcare professional about all the medications you use (including prescription and nonprescription medications, and herbal products). Tell your doctor if you are taking any product that causes drowsiness, including alcohol, anti-allergic medicine like (Cetirizine, Diphenhydramine), anti-anxiety medicines (Diazepam, Zolpidem, Alprazolam), muscle relaxant and narcotics.
Interactions with food items
Do not eat grapefruit unless your doctor guides.
Dosage
Overdose
Overdose of Cycloserine may lead to headache, giddiness, fatigue, altered sensation, change in mental condition, etc.
Missed a Dose
Take the missed dose as early as you remember. If you miss a dose; do not take extra medicine to compensate for the missed dose.
