Comptil tablet is mainly used for short-term treatment of severe nausea and vomiting induced by medications like anti-cancer medicines, radiotherapy, post procedures/surgeries, diseases, migraine, et
c. Managing the symptoms of schizophrenia and anxiety in cases where other medicines cannot control them is one of the uses of the Comptil tablet. Comptil tablet contains Prochlorperazine as its main ingredient. It is an antiemetic (controls vomiting) and antipsychotic medication. The mode of action of Comptil tablets is by lowering the abnormal electrical activity and excitement in the brain. Directions for the use of Comptil tablets should be strictly followed. It is not meant for children under two or those who weigh less than 9 kilograms. It may cause death in older adults with dementia-related psychosis. This medicine is not addictive but may cause dependency if used long-term. Suddenly stopping this medicine may cause withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, lightheadedness, and tremors all over the body. Side effects of Comptil tablets include appetite increase, drowsiness, dizziness, menstrual irregularities, blurred vision, skin reactions, and low blood pressure.

Uses of Comptil 5 MG
- As per CDSCO and USFDA, the Comptil tablet is used in the following conditions:
- To treat nausea and vomiting in severe cases and only for the short term.
- To manage the signs of schizophrenia (a mental illness that causes disturbed or uncommon thinking, loss of interest in life, and strong or improper emotions).
- To manage anxiety for a short time in people who do not respond to other medications.
Contraindications of Comptil 5 MG
- Comptil tablet is contraindicated in the following cases:
- If you have a known hypersensitivity to Prochlorperazine or any component of Comptil tablet
- If you are an older adult with dementia-related psychosis; this medicine increases the risk of death
- If you are under treatment with different antipsychotic medication
- If you are unconscious or have central nervous system (CNS) depression (steady decline of breathing)
- If you have neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a neuromuscular disorder)
- If you are a child under two and weigh less than 9 kilograms
- If you have tardive dyskinesia (sudden jerky movements)
- If you have a tumour on your adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma)
- If you have been diagnosed with a prolactin-dependent tumour. This medicine can increase prolactin levels
- If you are expectant or planning for a pregnancy

Other General Warnings
- You have a low white blood cell count (leukopenia or neutropenia). It makes you more prone to infections.
- You have been diagnosed with a seizure disorder (fits) and are currently using medications.
- You have certain pre-existing liver diseases.
- You are suffering from any pre-existing heart illness. This medicine can cause changes to heart rhythm.
- You are suffering from skin allergies after taking this medicine.
- You notice any sudden involuntary muscle movements.
- You have low blood pressure. This medicine causes orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure with changing position).
- Your child has an infection like chickenpox, measles, stomach infections, etc., do not administer this medicine to a sick child. Consult your doctor.
