Medical Description
Cifran 500 tablet is an antibiotic medication commonly prescribed for treating bacterial infections. It contains ciprofloxacin as its active ingredient, which belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics. Cifran 500 is effective against a range of infections, such as pneumonia, sinusitis, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin infections, ear and throat infections, as well as infections of the stomach and lungs. Halting bacterial growth and destroying harmful bacteria helps the body recover more quickly and prevents the spread of infection.
The medicine works by inhibiting specific enzymes (DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV) that bacteria need to multiply and survive. This makes Cifran 500 a potent and effective antibiotic for treating moderate to severe infections. However, it should always be taken under medical supervision, as misuse or overuse of antibiotics can diminish their effectiveness and lead to antibiotic resistance.
Cifran 500 should ideally be taken with meals to minimise stomach upset. The dosage and duration depend on the type and severity of infection, as well as the patient’s age and overall health. It is crucial to complete the full course of this antibiotic, even if symptoms improve early, as stopping it prematurely can cause treatment failure and increase the risk of re-infection.
Some other common brands containing ciprofloxacin include Ciplox 500 mg tablet, Ciprodac 500mg tablet, Ciprobid 500mg tablet, Cee 500mg tablet, and Medicip 500mg tablet. While the composition is similar, you should not switch brands or alter the dosage without consulting your doctor.
Before beginning treatment with Cifran 500, always inform your doctor about your complete medical history, including any allergies, kidney or liver disease, heart conditions, or concurrent medications. Like all antibiotics, Cifran may cause side effects such as nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain, or dizziness, but most are temporary. If you experience severe reactions, seek medical advice immediately. With proper use, Cifran 500 is a reliable antibiotic for managing and curing bacterial infections.
