Budecort 200 Metered-Dose Inhaler

• If you are allergic to budesonide or any of the ingredients of Budecort 200 or milk proteins.
• Budecort 200 inhalers should not be used to treat Status asthmaticus, an extreme form of asthma in which asthma attacks follow one another without pause and asthma attacks, which require a medical emergency.

• Fungal infection of the mouth
• Pneumonia
• Hoarseness in voice
• Cough
• Throat irritation
• Change of taste

Other General Warnings

• You have a problem of difficulty in breathing or a severe asthma problem, then the doctor may adjust the dose accordingly.
• You have or had a serious infection that affects mainly the lungs.
• You are suffering from liver disease, as it may lead to increased levels of budesonide in your blood. Such patients need to be checked at regular intervals.
• You experience any allergic reactions like rashes, urge to scratch, or swelling, then the doctor may discontinue the treatment.
• You should not take more than the recommended for effective control of asthma and maintenance.
• You experience any visual disturbance, then your doctor may refer you to an eye specialist for evaluation of possible causes, which may include cataracts, high pressure inside the eye (glaucoma).
• You develop an oral fungal infection and an increase in wheezing after using this medicine, then the doctor may discontinue the treatment or suggest an alternate.
• This medicine may impair the growth of children. The doctor may re-evaluate the dose and make sure you do not give an extra dose to your kids.
• Budecort 200 can suppress the actions of adrenal glands and cause physiological changes you may not perceive. Discuss it with your doctor.

• Use Budecort 200 Metered-Dose Inhaler exactly as prescribed, every day, including when you feel well.
• Shake the inhaler well before each dose and remove the cap.
• Breathe out fully, place the mouthpiece between your lips, and press the canister as you begin to breathe in slowly and deeply.
• Hold your breath for about ten seconds, then breathe out gently. Wait about thirty seconds before a second puff.
• Use a spacer wherever possible, which delivers more medicine to the lungs and less to the throat.
• Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after every dose.
• Rinse the plastic actuator in warm water weekly and let it dry fully; never immerse the metal canister.
• Never use this inhaler to relieve a sudden attack.

• Keep it in original packing.
• Keep the device tightly closed to protect it from moisture.
• Keep it away from light and moisture.

• Budecort 200 Metered-Dose Inhaler is a preventer, not a reliever; it does nothing for an attack in progress.
• Always carry your reliever inhaler for sudden breathlessness.
• Use it every single day, including when you feel completely well.
• Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after every dose to prevent thrush and hoarseness.
• Use a spacer wherever possible; it gets far more medicine into your lungs and less into your throat.
• Shake the inhaler before each dose and breathe in slowly and deeply as you press.
• Allow two to four weeks of regular use before judging whether it is working.
• Tell your doctor if you need your reliever more often than before, as this signals worsening asthma.
• Rinse the plastic actuator weekly in warm water and let it dry fully; never wash the metal canister.
• Keep track of doses used and replace the inhaler before it runs out.
• Children on regular treatment should have their height measured periodically.
• Do not stop the inhaler because you feel well; the inflammation is still there underneath.

Interactions with other medicines

• Antifungal medicines such as Ketoconazole, Itraconazole should not be taken along with Budecort 200 inhaler and if the treatment is a must, there should be a sufficient gap between the administration of two medicines.
• Concomitant use of Anti-HIV medicines such as Nelfinavir, Ritonavir, Indinavir and antibiotics like Clarithromycin with Budecort 200 inhaler should be avoided.
• Other medicines containing steroids and medicines used for asthma management like salbutamol should be used cautiously.
