Medical Description

Brufen Tablet contains ibuprofen as its active medicine which is a pain killer (analgesic) used mainly for patients with rheumatoid arthritis and other types of joint and muscle pains.

Uses of Brufen 200mg Tablet

  • For the treatment of -
  • Rheumatoid arthritis in both adults and children.
  • Pain and swelling of joints.
  • Reduced movements of joints (ankylosing spondylitis).
  • Frozen shoulder.
  • Back pain.
  • Pain due to swelling in muscle and tendons (bursitis, tendonitis, tenosynovitis).
  • Sprains and strains.
  • Dental pain.
  • Periods pain.
  • Headache.
  • Pain after minor surgical procedures.

Contraindications of Brufen 200mg Tablet

If you are allergic to Ibuprofen, aspirin, any other medicines of the NSAID group. If you are allergic to any other ingredients of this medicine or galactose intolerance. If you have experienced ble
eding from the stomach, have stomach ulcers or bleeding from the stomach or gut. If you have an increased bleeding tendency. If you suffer from severe heart failure. If you suffer from kidney or liver failure. If you are pregnant (last 3 months).

Side effects of Brufen 200mg Tablet

  • Abdominal pain
  • Sickness
  • Diarrhoea
  • Feeling of discomfort or fullness due to gas formation
  • Headache
  • Increased sensitivity to light
  • Spinning sensation in the head
  • Difficulty in sleeping
  • Sneezing, a runny nose
  • Blood in stools (black stools)
  • Shortness of breath, skin rash, swelling in and around the mouth
  • Blood in vomiting

Precautions and Warnings of Brufen 200mg Tablet

Pregnancy

Q:
Can I take Brufen Tablet during pregnancy?
A:
Use of Brufen Tablet is not recommended for usage in the last three months of pregnancy and its use should be avoided even in the early months. Take this medicine only when it is clearly prescribed by your doctor.

Breast Feeding

Q:
Can I take Brufen Tablet while breastfeeding?
A:
There is limited information about the presence of this medicine in breastmilk. Brufen Tablet should be avoided in breastfeeding mothers, take it only if it is clearly prescribed by your doctor.

Driving

Q:
Can I drive if I have consumed Brufen Tablet?
A:
Brufen Tablet may sometimes cause unsteadiness or sleepiness. Do not drive unless you feel completely alert and oriented.

Alcohol

Q:
Can I consume alcohol with Brufen Tablet?
A:
You should not consume alcohol if you are taking Brufen Tablet as it will increase the risk of stomach discomforts, ulcers and bleeding.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have galactose intolerance.
  • You have stomach-related problems like bleeding from the stomach and ulcers (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease).
  • You have a history of allergic problems, asthma, etc.
  • You have heart-related problems.
  • You suffer from high blood pressure or diabetes.
  • You suffer from a serious disease of the kidney or liver.
  • You suffer from autoimmune disorders like systemic lupus erythematosus (risk of aseptic meningitis), mixed connective tissue disorders.
  • You are pregnant or are planning to get pregnant.
  • You have any bleeding disorders.
  • Use this medicine with caution in the case of children and the elderly.

Mode of Action of Brufen 200mg Tablet

How Does It Work?

Brufen Tablet contain ibuprofen which inhibits the chemicals responsible for pain, swelling, redness and offers relief in joint and muscular pains due to rheumatoid arthritis or other reasons.

Directions for Use of Brufen 200mg Tablet

  • Take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor with food.

Interactions of Brufen 200mg Tablet

Interactions with other medicines

  • Concomitant use of Brufen Tablet with the following medicines may cause increased risk of toxicity to kidneys-
  • Medicines for high blood pressure, water pills.
  • Medicines to lower immunity (tacrolimus, cyclosporin).
  • Use of Brufen Tablet with the following medicines may increase the risk of bleeding from the stomach-
  • Corticosteroids.
  • Other pain killer and fever medicines (aspirin and NSAID's).
  • Blood thinners.
  • Medicines to prevent blood clot (warfarin).
  • Herbal supplement gingko biloba.
  • Following medicines when given with Brufen Tablet may alter it's effects or worsen some side effects-
  • Antiviral medicines- zidovudine.
  • Anti-cancer medicine- methotrexate.
  • Medicines for heart-related problems- digoxin.
  • Medicines for mental disorders- fluoxetine, paroxetine.
  • Medicines to lower down cholesterol levels- cholestyramine.
  • Medicines used to treat diabetes (sulphonylureas, glibenclamide).
  • Antibiotics (aminoglycosides, ciprofloxacin).
  • Discuss with your doctor about any other medicines, herbal preparations and supplements you are taking currently to avoid any possible drug interactions.

Store it below 25°C, in a cool and dry place. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

If you have taken too much of this medicine, then contact your doctor or reach out to the nearest hospital immediately as an overdose may result in vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, ulceration or bl
