Brintellix 10 is a medication that is primarily used for the treatment of major depressive disorder. It contains vortioxetine. Vortioxetine belongs to medicine classification of SSRI (Selective serot
onin reuptake inhibitor). Serotonin is a chemical messenger which transmits messages between the nerve cells. It improves mood, relieves anxiety and also makes sleeping easier; that is why sometimes it is also called a happy chemical.

Other General Warnings
Talk to your doctor if
- You are young and get strong thoughts of self-harm or suicide. Brintellix 10 increases the risk of suicidal thoughts in young adults.
- You have liver or kidney problems.
- You have glaucoma (a condition of the eye where the fluid production in the eye increases which can lead to eventual loss of vision)
- You have a seizure disorder. You must inform your doctor in such a case.
- You want to stop the medicine. You must not stop using this medicine abruptly as this can lead to some undesirable effects like headache, so stop it gradually over a period of a few weeks.
- You are undergoing any treatment with anticoagulants as Brintellix 10 increases the risk of bleeding.
- You are elderly, as the risk of serious side effects is more in such cases.
- You had hives, rashes, wheeze, difficulty breathing following the use of any medication in the past.
- You must get blood sodium levels done before starting treatment with Brintellix 10 because it may decrease even further and can produce serious side effects.

Brintellix 10 acts by modulating the levels of different chemical messengers, like serotonin, noradrenaline, dopamine etc., all of which affect the mood of a person.

Directions for Use of Brintellix 10 MG
- Brintellix 10 comes as a tablet formulation. Take it as a whole, with a glass of water, with or without food, preferably at a fixed time in a day.
- Take the recommended dose regularly, even if you don't feel better as it takes about four to six weeks for this medicine to start showing its effect.
- Do not stop even if you don't feel better.
- Do not increase or decrease the dose on your own.
Interactions of Brintellix 10 MG
Interactions with other medicines
- The metabolism of Brintellix 10 is decreased when combined with paracetamol (used in case of fever and pain).
- Using Brintellix 10 concomitantly with aspirin may increase the risk of bleeding. Close monitoring is needed in such cases.
- Using Brintellix 10 concomitantly with diclofenac increases the risk of side effects.
- Ampicillin (antibiotic) decreases the excretion of Brintellix.
- The concomitant use of Brintellix 10 with atenolol increases the risk of side effects of both medicines.
- Bacitracin may decrease the excretion of Brintellix 10 and may lead to toxicity, so their concomitant use must be avoided.
- Using Brintellix 10 with linezolid can cause very high levels of serotonin leading to a syndrome called serotonin syndrome, which is a life-threatening condition. Use them with caution.
- Other medicines which can interact with Brintellix 10 are,
- Warfarin
- Rifampicin
- Phenytoin
Storage and disposal of Brintellix 10 MG
Store this medicine away from direct sunlight and moisture, in an airtight container, away from children and pets.
Do not use the medicine if the packaging has been damaged.
The leftover medicine must be handed over to the concerned pharmacist.
Do not flush the medicine into the toilet....
Dosage of Brintellix 10 MG
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, loss of consciousness, coma, and even death.
Take the person to the hospital as soon as possible.
Call the emergency helpline in case of delay.
Missed a Dose
Take the missed dose as early as possible.
Never try to double the dose.
Take it at a fixed time in a day to avoid missing it.
