Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Tell the clinician if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. The clinician will use this injection only when the expected benefit justifies the possible risk.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Tell the clinician if you are breastfeeding before receiving this injection. Ask whether feeding should be timed or paused.

Driving

Driving

Blurred vision, dizziness, or reduced alertness may occur after atropine. Do not drive until the clinician confirms that it is safe and you feel fully alert.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Ask the clinician whether alcohol is suitable after receiving atropine, especially if you feel dizzy or have blurred vision.

Directions for Use

This injection will be given by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic. Do not self-inject. The clinician will select the route and amount according to the emergency or procedure and will monitor your response.

Storage and disposal

Keep this medicine in its original pack away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep it out of reach of children. Do not use it after expiry and ask a pharmacist about safe disposal.

Quick Tips

  • Tell the clinician about glaucoma, urinary difficulty, bowel problems, and heart disease.
  • Mention every medicine and supplement you use before the injection.
  • Dry mouth, blurred vision, and a fast heartbeat should be reported if severe or persistent.
  • Remain under clinical observation for the period advised after an emergency injection.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much atropine may cause a very fast heartbeat, severe confusion, blurred vision, difficulty passing urine, or overheating. If you think you have received too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If a planned injection is missed, contact the treating clinic promptly. The clinician will decide whether to skip the missed dose or arrange another appointment. Do not take a double dose or receive extra medicine to make up for it.

How does this medicine work?

Atropine reduces the effect of a nerve signal that can slow the heartbeat and increase secretions. This may help raise a dangerously slow heart rate, dry secretions before a procedure, or counter certain poisoning effects when a clinician gives it.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way atropine works or increase unwanted effects. Tell the clinician about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you use. In particular, mention antihistamines, medicines for spasms, medicines for anxiety or sleep, medicines for heart rhythm, and other medicines that can cause dry mouth or blurred vision.

Interactions with food items

No specific food interaction is established for this injection. Follow the clinician's advice about food and drink.
