Medical Description
Astrotel 40mg Tab contains telmisartan, which belongs to the class of medicines called angiotensin receptor antagonists (ARA). It is used to lower high blood pressure.

Contraindications of Astrotel 40mg Tab
- Allergic to the medicine
- Pregnancy
- Liver or kidney disease
- Renal artery stenosis (narrow blood vessels of the kidney)
Side effects of Astrotel 40mg Tab
- Common effects of Astrotel 40mg Tab are low blood pressure, headache, dizziness, rash, swelling of face, lips and throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea
- Severe side effects are upper respiratory tract infection, deranged kidney function, increased white blood cells count, depression, dry mouth, muscle pain and low haemoglobin count

Pregnancy

Can I take the medicine during pregnancy?
A:
Do not take this medicine while pregnant or while planning pregnancy as it can harm the foetus.
Breast Feeding

Can I take the medicine while breastfeeding?
A:
Enough information is not available on the safety of this medicine while breastfeeding, but it is advisable to consult your doctor first and then begin treatment if your breastfeeding.
Driving

Can I drive if I have consumed the medicine?
A:
If side effects like dizziness or drowsiness persist than do not drive if you have consumed this medicine.
Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with the medicine?
A:
Alcohol reduces blood pressure and induce side effects like dizziness or sedation and thus must be avoided while on treatment with this medicine.
Other General Warnings
Talk to your doctor if
You have or have had angioedema (characterised by swelling of the face, lips, throat and tongue); excessive vomiting or diarrhoea, history of narrowing of blood vessels, kidney transplant, liver disease, or heart failure with or without renal infarction or life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias.

Interactions of Astrotel 40mg Tab
Interactions with other medicines
This medicine has shown interactions with aspirin and NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors, azathioprine, lithium, aspirin, aliskiren, and diuretics and other medicines that increase blood potassium levels.
Interactions with food items
Avoid food high in potassium content as high potassium levels in the blood while consuming this medicine can cause weakness, irregular heartbeat, confusion, tingling of extremities and feeling of heaviness in the legs.

Store this medicine at room temperature and away from excess heat, moisture and light.
Dosage of Astrotel 40mg Tab
Overdose
An overdose of this medicine might cause increased heart rate, low blood pressure, dizziness, increased level of potassium in the blood, kidney failure and loss of consciousness. Seek medical help if an overdose occurs.

Missed a Dose
Take the missed dose immediately, but do not double the dosage.

Q: Before taking the medicine, what should I inform my doctor?
A: Inform your doctor about all your ongoing medication, most importantly if you are on antidiabetic medication; consumption of antidiabetic medicine along with this medicine abruptly changes the blood sugar levels by virtue of their interaction. Also, mention if you are taking aspirin and painkillers as they can also interfere in the mode of action of this medicine.
Q: How to consume this medicine?
A: This medicine is unusually taken twice per day, but it is recommended to take it as per your doctor's instructions.
