Medical Description

Angiplat capsule is used to prevent episodes of chest pain (angina) in people whose heart is not getting enough blood. It contains nitroglycerin, a medicine that relaxes and widens blood vessels so blood can reach the heart more easily.

Uses

  • Prevention of chest pain (angina)
  • Long-term management of angina

Contraindications

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine. It is not safe to take with medicines for erection problems, such as sildenafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil, or with medicines for raised blood pressure in the lungs, as the mix can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure. Tell your doctor if you have very low blood pressure, a recent heart attack, severe anaemia, or raised pressure inside the head.

  • Flushing
  • Low blood pressure
  • Fast heartbeat

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. This medicine should be used in pregnancy only when your doctor decides the benefit is greater than the risk.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

It is not known how safe this medicine is while breastfeeding, so it is usually avoided. Speak to your doctor before using it.

Driving

Driving

This medicine can make you feel dizzy or lightheaded. Do not drive or use machines until you feel steady.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Alcohol can add to the blood-pressure-lowering effect and make you feel faint. Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.

Directions for Use

Take this medicine as a whole with sufficient water. Do not crush, chew, or break the capsule, as it is made to release the medicine slowly. Take it as advised by your doctor.

Storage and disposal

Store in the original container at room temperature, away from heat, light, and moisture. Keep the container tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date on the pack.

Quick Tips

  • This medicine only prevents chest pain and works too slowly to stop a sudden attack
  • Always keep your fast-acting rescue medicine with you for sudden chest pain
  • Get up slowly from sitting or lying down to avoid feeling faint
  • A headache is common at first and usually eases in a few days; tell your doctor if it does not
  • Do not stop this medicine on your own, as stopping suddenly can bring on chest pain

Dosage

Overdose

Too much can cause a severe headache, sweating, a slow or fast heartbeat, cold clammy skin, and fainting. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The heart needs a steady supply of blood to work without pain. When the vessels feeding the heart are narrowed, the heart muscle does not get enough oxygen and chest pain sets in. Nitroglycerin relaxes and widens blood vessels, both those carrying blood to the heart and those returning blood to it. This eases the load on the heart and lets more oxygen-rich blood reach the heart muscle, which helps stop angina before it starts.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Angiplat capsule works, and it can also change how other medicines act. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including those bought without a prescription and herbal products. In particular, do not take it with medicines for erection problems or with certain blood pressure medicines, as together they can drop your blood pressure to a harmful level.
