Medical Description

Amipride Tablet is used for the treatment of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a mental health condition characterised by hallucinations, delusions, extremely disordered thinking and behaviour, impairing daily functioning and disabling. Amipride Tablet helps stabilise symptoms like irritability, anxiety, and other behaviours in people suffering from schizophrenia. Amipride Tablet contains Amisulpride as an active ingredient. It belongs to a class of atypical antipsychotic medicines. It increases dopamine and serotonin levels in the brain. These are chemical substances that help stabilise the mood and prevent the overactivity of the nerve cells in the brain. Amipride Tablet dosage should be taken as advised by your doctor. There are also many side effects associated with this medicine, so it is advised to take it after the doctor’s consultation, and dosage must be carefully monitored. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it can cause clinical worsening of your condition or may lead to withdrawal symptoms.

Uses

  • As per CDSCO, Amipride is used in the treatment of acute and chronic schizophrenic disorders.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to components of Amipride Tablet.
  • If you are already on other antipsychotic medication.
  • If you are taking anti-Parkinson's medicine Levodopa.
  • If you have breast cancer or a family history of breast cancer. This medicine can increase prolactin (hormone) levels in the body.
  • If you have Parkinson's disease or dementia.
  • If you have an adrenal gland tumour, this medicine can cause life-threatening high blood pressure.
  • If you are pregnant or planning for it.
  • If you have liver disease.
  • If you have kidney disease.
  • If you have respiratory issues.

Directions for Use

  • Take Amipride Tablet as prescribed by the doctor.
  • You can take this medicine with or without food or as prescribed.
  • Take this medication on a regular schedule, preferably at the same time every day.
  • Take the tablet as a whole with a full glass of water. Do not break/crush the tablet or chew this medicine.
  • Do not take this tablet with other medications without consulting your doctor.
  • Don’t suddenly stop taking this medication, as it may lead to withdrawal side effects.

Storage and disposal

Do not remove the medicine from its packing and store it within its original packaging. Do not flush medicines down into the toilet or throw them into the dustbin unless instructed to do so. Overdose

Overdose Amipride Tablet can cause dizziness, agitation, confusion, tremors, convulsion, nausea, vomiting, sleep disturbances, hypotension, increased heart rate, diminished reflexes, and coma. If you experience any of these symptoms or overdose on this medicine, immediately seek emergency medical treatment from a nearby hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you’ve missed a dose of the Amipride Tablet, take it as soon as possible. If you remember missing a dose when it's already time to take the next scheduled dose, then skip the missed dose and take the next scheduled dose. Talk to your doctor if you have any confusion regarding this issue. Do not take both doses together as it can cause overdose side effects.

Amipride Tablet contains Amisulpride as an active ingredient. It acts by increasing dopamine and serotonin activity by blocking their receptors. Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Anxiety meds, such as diazepam, clonazepam, chlordiazepoxide, alprazolam and lorazepam. You may experience sedation and drowsiness.
  • Blood pressure-lowering medicine, such as amlodipine, lisinopril, losartan, or metoprolol. You may have low blood pressure.
  • Pain killers, such as morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, hydrocodone, tramadol, and codeine. Interaction may cause more sedation and drowsiness.
  • Anti-Parkinson medicines for such as levodopa. Taking this medicine with Levodopa for Parkinson’s disease is not recommended, as they have exactly opposite effects.
  • Interaction with Antifungal medications like itraconazole and ketoconazole can reduce its effects of it.
  • Interaction with Antidepressants or mood-elevating medicines like fluoxetine and desipramine can cause increased side effects.
  • Interaction with other sedatives, heart medicines, antimalarial medicines, antihistamines, etc. All these medications can cause interactions.

  • You can continue with the regular diet as food doesn’t influence the effect of the Amipride Tablet.
