Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
Panitumumab is a medication used to treat cancer of the colon and rectum. It belongs to a class of medications known as monoclonal antibodies. Monoclonal antibodies are proteins designed to target specific cells in the body. Panitumumab targets and binds to a protein called the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), which is found in some cancer cells. When Panitumumab binds to EGFR, it obstructs the signals instructing cancer cells to grow and divide. This can aid in slowing the growth of the cancer and may also contribute to shrinking tumours.
