Domperidone is an anti-sickness medicine. It is used for the treatment of nause

a and vomiting. It increases the movement of food into the stomach, thereby helps in indigestion. It is also used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease and gastroparesis (sluggish movements of the stomach). It belongs to the anti-emetic (emesis - vomiting) group of medicines. Domperidone is available in the form of a tablet, capsule, syrup, suspension, oral drops, rectal suppository. Uses of Domperidone

Domperidone is used to relieve nausea and vomiting.

Contraindications of Domperidone

When should one not use Domperidone

If you are allergic to domperidone or similar medicines
If you have problems with your heart, liver or kidney
If you have a blockage or tear in the intestines
If you have a low level of potassium or magnesium or a high level of potassium in your blood
If you have a tumour of the pituitary gland called a prolactinoma
If you have black, tarry bowel stools or blood in stools

Pregnancy

Can I use domperidone during pregnancy?

It is not advised to take domperidone during pregnancy until it is considered essential by the doctor and potential risks justify the benefits.

Breast Feeding

Can I use domperidone while breastfeeding?

Domperidone passes into breast milk in small amounts. Thus, your doctor will decide on either discontinuing the medicine or breastfeeding after assessing the potential risk on breastfeeding infant over the risk of delayed treatment on breastfeeding mother.

Driving

Can I drive if I have used domperidone?

Domperidone may cause sleepiness, confusion, less control over your movements, thus you need to be cautious while driving.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with domperidone?

Avoid consuming alcohol with domperidone, as it may worsen the side effects.
