Candesartan is an Angiotensin II receptor antagonist used mainly for the treatm
ent of high blood pressure(hypertension).
Uses of Candesartan
This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure, prevent strokes, heart attacks.
Contraindications of Candesartan
When should one not use Candesartan
- A condition where a blood vessel in the kidney is narrow(renal artery stenosis)
- Abnormally low blood pressure
- Liver problems
- Kidney problems cause a decrease in the amount of urine to pass
- Pregnancy
- Children less than one year of age
- Known allergy to the medicine or any of its ingredients
- If you are taking a medicine called Aliskiren

- The Tetracycline group of medicines Penicillamine and Levothyroxine
- Medicines to help lower your blood pressure, including beta-blockers, Diazoxide and ACE inhibitors such as Captopril, Enalapril, Lisinopril or Ramipril
- Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) such as Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Diclofenac, Celecoxib or Etoricoxib (medicines to relieve pain and inflammation)
- Aspirin (medicine to reduce pain and inflammation)
- Potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium (medicines that can increase the amount of potassium in the blood)
- Heparin (a medicine for thinning the blood)
- Water tablets (Diuretics)

This medicine has interactions with food rich in potassium (spinach, banana, green leafy vegetables, peas) and foods containing high amount of fat. One must avoid such foods while taking this medicine....
Dosage of Candesartan
Overdose
Overdose symptoms may include fainting, fast or slow heartbeat, severe dizziness, or lightheadedness. Seek emergency medical attention.
Missed a Dose
