Medical Description

Ibrunat capsule is an anti-cancer medicine that is used to treat various types of blood cancer in adults. It contains the active substance ibrutinib that works by preventing the growth and survival of cancer cells. This medicine should be used exactly as recommended by your doctor. You should inform your doctor about all medicines including non-prescription medicines, herbals and supplements that you are taking. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use Ibrunat capsule. Women who are capable of becoming pregnant should use effective birth control during treatment and 3 months after treatment with Ibrunat capsule.

Uses

Ibrunat capsule is used for the treatment of blood cancers like mantle cell lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to ibrutinib or any other ingredient of Ibrunat capsule.
If you are taking a herbal medicine called St. John's wort. If you are not sure what this medicine is, please confirm with your doctor.

Pregnancy

There is limited information available about the safety of Ibrunat capsule in pregnant women. Thus, to avoid any risks to the developing baby, Ibrunat capsule is not recommended for use in pregnancy.

Breast Feeding

No information is available if Ibrunat capsule passes into human breast milk. It is recommended that breastfeeding women should not use this medicine.

Driving

Ibrunat capsule may have a minor effect on driving ability. After taking this medicine, if you experience dizziness or weakness, then it is suggested that you do not drive.

Alcohol

Talk to your doctor if

You have or had unusual bruising or bleeding or take any medicines or supplements that increase your risk of bleeding (warfarin).
You have or had an irregular heartbeat, heart failure, or symptoms like weakness, dizziness, fainting, or swollen legs.
You have liver or kidney problems.
You have high blood pressure.
You have recently had or are scheduled for surgery.
You develop symptoms like trouble thinking, difficulty walking, vision disturbances, weakness in the limbs, headache, trouble speaking after taking this medicine.
You experience pain in the upper left belly, pain below the left rib, pain at the tip of your left shoulder after stopping this medicine.
You develop symptoms of an infection like fever, chills, body pain, tiredness, yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Directions for Use

Take this medicine as a whole with sufficient water.
Always take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Do not consume more than the prescribed dose.
Do not discontinue the medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.

Storage and disposal

Store in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight.
Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of the medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Ibrunat capsule blocks the action of a protein called Bruton's tyrosine kinase (Btk) in the body responsible for the growth and survival of the cancer cells. By blocking this protein, Ibrunat capsule kills and reduces the number of cancer cells, which slows down the growth of cancer.

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Ibrunat capsule works or Ibrunat capsule itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
The use of Ibrunat capsule along with anti-fungal medicines (ketoconazole, voriconazole), antibiotics (clarithromycin), anti-HIV medicines (indinavir, cobicistat), anti-depressants (nefazodone, fluvoxamine), medicines for nausea and vomiting (aprepitant), anti-cancer medicines (crizotinib), high blood pressure medicines (diltiazem), medicines for irregular heartbeat (amiodarone), grapefruit juice and Seville oranges may increase the levels of Ibrunat capsule in the body.
The level of Ibrunat capsule may be decreased in the body when used together with anti-tuberculosis medicines (rifampicin), medicines for seizures/fits (phenytoin), herbal medicines containing St.John's wort, proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole).
Care should be taken if you are taking medicines to treat heart failure (digoxin) or lower cholesterol (rosuvastatin).
