Uses
- As per USFDA guidelines, Vetalog injection can be used for,
- Treatment of allergic conditions like asthma, dermatitis (skin allergy), medication allergies, etc.
- Treatment of stomach disorders like enteritis (inflammation of small intestines) and ulcerative colitis (chronic inflammation of intestines)
- Treatment of various skin conditions like erythema multiforme (bulging rash-like lesions), pemphigus, eczema
- Treatment of rheumatic diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis (a type of arthritis that affects mostly spine and pelvis), rheumatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout (arthritis due to high uric acid in the body)
- Treatment of blood disorders like hemolytic anaemia (disorder of red blood cells), thrombocytopenia (Low blood platelet count), etc.
- Treatment of endocrine disorders like adrenal hyperplasia, adrenal insufficiency (problems with adrenal gland and impaired cortisol hormone synthesis), etc.
- Supportive treatment in certain cancers like leukaemia (cancer of blood cells) or lymphoma (cancer of lymphatic system)
- Treatment of nervous system related disorders like brain tumours, multiple sclerosis (disabling condition of brain and central nervous system), head injury
- Treatment of kidney diseases like idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (kidney pass too much protein into the urine)
- Treatment of respiratory diseases like tuberculosis (infection), pneumonia (lung infections), and sarcoidosis (abnormal collection of certain cells that form lumps)
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to any of the components of Vetalog injection.
- If you have a severe systemic infection, do not use this medicine. It lowers the immune responses and increases the infection.

- You have a history of heart failure, renal conditions, high blood pressure.
- You have stomach related issues like ulcers, perforation or bleeding.
- You have pain or swelling in the joint, which can be indicative of an injection in the joint. This medicine can worsen the condition.
- You have low calcium and any bone deformity. This medicine can lower calcium levels and decrease bone density.
- You have been diagnosed with mood disorders. Vetalog Injections can worsen the symptoms.
- You have glaucoma, an eye condition. The pressure inside the eyes needs to be monitored.
- You are using long term antibiotics or antiviral medicines.
Directions for Use
- Vetalog Injection can be taken before or after consuming food.
- This injection should be administered by a healthcare professional.
- Injection site and the dosage will be based on the conditions and the treatment.
- The injection can be given intramuscularly or at the site of inflammation like joints.
- Do not administer these injections intravenously (into a vein) or into the spine.
- Do not inject this medicine around the eyes and some areas of the nose, as this can increase the risk of damage to the eyes or blindness.
- Wash hands carefully before using this medicine.
- Shake the vial before using.
- Clean the injection site with rubbing alcohol before injecting.
- Do not take Vetalog Injection by yourself.

Interactions with other medicines
- When Vetalog Injection is given while using medicines that reduce potassium, patients must be monitored to prevent further reduction in potassium.
- Using aspirin or other similar medicines can increase the risk of stomach-related side effects and bleeding.
- Antifungals like ketoconazole can reduce the metabolism of Vetalog Injection.
- This injection can lower the effects of any vaccine, due to a reduction in the immune response.
- Certain antibiotics can reduce the removal of Vetalog medication from the body.
- Vetalog Injection can interact with diabetic medicines, tuberculosis medicine, oral contraceptives, etc., and reduce their effectiveness.
Interactions with food items
- Do not take grapefruit and its juice with Vetalog Injection. High quantities of grapefruit with this medicine can cause side effects.
