Medical Description

Trinyl syrup is used to relieve cough with thick mucus, chest congestion and throat irritation. It contains a combination of ambroxol, guaifenesin, menthol and terbutaline. The ambroxol and guaifenesin loosen mucus and help move it out, menthol soothes the throat, and terbutaline relaxes narrowed airway muscles. This can make mucus easier to clear and air easier to move through the airways. Trinyl syrup is taken by mouth using the supplied measuring device, as prescribed.

How does this medicine work?

Ambroxol makes thick mucus less sticky and supports its movement out of the airways. Guaifenesin increases watery airway secretions so mucus is easier to cough up. Menthol gives a cooling sensation that can soothe throat irritation. Terbutaline relaxes the muscles around the airways, helping them open and allowing air to move more freely.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Trinyl syrup works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, mention other airway-opening medicines, beta-blockers, medicines for high blood pressure or heart rhythm, water tablets, steroid medicines, medicines that lower potassium and antidepressants, because they may alter breathing, heart rate, blood pressure or potassium levels.

Interactions with food items

No specific food interaction is known. Warm fluids may help loosen mucus and soothe the throat.
