Medical Description

Trazine H Tablet is a combination medicine used in the treatment of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a mental illness that affects how a person thinks, acts, expresses emotions, perceives reality, and relates to others. Trazine H Tablet is composed of trifluoperazine and trihexyphenidyl/benzhexol hydrochloride. Trazine H Tablet comes under the therapeutic classification of antipsychotics. Trifluoperazine comes under the classification of phenothiazine tranquillisers. It influences the activity of specific brain cells by decreasing the effects of certain chemicals like dopamine in the brain. Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Trifluoperazine exerts its mechanism of action by decreasing the effect of dopamine in the brain cells. Dopamine is a chemical neurotransmitter in the brain that acts as a messenger between the nerve cells in the central nervous system. By blocking the central dopamine receptors, trifluoperazine prevents delusions and hallucinations, which are caused due to excess dopamine. Trihexyphenidyl/benzhexol hydrochloride belongs to a group of medicines known as antispasmodic medicine. It works by relaxing muscle tissue and acting on the nerves that control the working of muscles. It reduces excess salivation, rigidity of muscle spasms, and tremor by relaxing the smooth muscle.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Interaction with tricyclic antidepressants, like amitriptyline, desipramine, can cause dry mouth, constipation, and blurred vision.
  • Interaction with opioids, like codeine and morphine, can increase the risk of sedation, respiratory depression, and death because of CNS depressant effects.
  • Anti-epileptic medicines, like levodopa, should be used with caution because this medicine can inhibit their action.
  • It can diminish the effects of anticoagulants like warfarin and aspirin.
