Telkonol M 50mg Strip Of 10 Tablets
Description
Telkonol M 50 tablet is a combination antihypertensive medicine primarily used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension), especially when your blood pressure cannot be adequately controlled with a single medicine. This medicine contains metoprolol (a beta-blocker and telmisartan (an angiotensin II receptor blocker). Metoprolol works by slowing your heart rate and relaxing blood vessels, and telmisartan prevents the binding of a substance called Angiotensin II, which constricts blood vessels. This dual mechanism relaxes your blood vessels, lowers your elevated blood pressure, and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to your heart.
Use Telkonol M 50 tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor and take it regularly at the same time each day for consistent blood pressure control. You must never stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, as abrupt discontinuation can lead to severe issues like a sudden hypertensive crisis, chest pain, an irregular heartbeat, or even a heart attack. If the medicine needs to be stopped, your doctor will likely advise a gradual decrease in the dose. If you notice any concerning side effects such as severe dizziness, syncope, or a significant slowing of your heart rate, report them to your doctor immediately.
Before beginning treatment with Telkonol M 50 Tablet, you must disclose all your current health issues, including heart problems (like heart block or sick sinus syndrome), severe liver or kidney disease, diabetes, asthma, or a tumour of the adrenal gland (phaeochromocytoma). It is generally contraindicated in cases of severe liver disease, certain heart problems, and during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. Since the medicine passes into a mother's milk, you should not take it while breastfeeding, or if you do, your infant should be closely monitored for side effects like a slow heart rate.
While taking Telkonol M 50 Tablet, you should take certain precautions, especially regarding diet and alcohol. It is recommended to limit your dietary intake of salt, especially by avoiding high-sodium processed and packaged foods. You should also reduce consumption of high-potassium foods like spinach and bananas, as telmisartan can increase potassium levels in your blood. Consuming alcohol with this medicine is not advised, as it can further lower your blood pressure and increase side effects like sleepiness or dizziness. Always inform your doctor about all other medicines and supplements you are taking, as Telkonol M 50 Tablet can interact with various types of medicines, including heart rhythm medicines, other blood pressure medicines, and blood thinners.
