Tamol Tablet Description

Tamol tablet is used as an analgesic (painkiller) and an antipyretic (to relieve fever) medicine. It consists of Paracetamol, also called acetaminophen, as the active component. It is commonly used t

o treat aches and pains of different origins like toothache, body ache, headache, migraine, nerve pain, and bring down high body temperature. It is used alone or in combination with other medicines for cold and flu. Tamol tablet takes 30 minutes to an hour to work. The usual dose is either one or two tablets at a time as per the body weight. It is mostly safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding but in limited doses. Some people may experience side effects like nausea, vomiting or allergic reactions. It does not need a prescription from a doctor, but it still should be used carefully as an overdose may cause serious problems.

Q: What if, after taking the Tamol tablet, I vomit?

A: If you vomit within half an hour of taking Tamol tablet, you need to take the medicine again, as the tablet has not been absorbed by then. But, if you vomit after 30 minutes, you should wait till the next standard dose or at least for 4 hours before taking another dose.

Q: What are the adverse effects of taking Tamol tablet in excess? Is it life-threatening?

A: Tamol tablets, if taken in excess, can cause acute liver injury, and it can be life-threatening as well. There is also a risk of kidney injury and eventually multiple organ involvement. It may also lead to decreased platelet count and coma. Immediately go to the nearest hospital if you suspect any person has taken an overdose of Tamol tablet.

Q: Can I take Ibuprofen and Tamol tablet together for backache?

A: Ibuprofen (NSAID) and Tamol tablet (Paracetamol) are painkillers and belong to different classes with different actions. They both are safe to take together, but the dosage will differ. Instead, you can take a fixed-dose combination medicine that combines these two. You should consult your doctor to adjust the doses.
