Medical Description

Sirolimus 1mg tablet contains sirolimus as an active substance which is an immunosuppressant used to prevent rejection of a transplanted kidney/s by your body. It is used to treat a rare systemic disease that mainly affects females of childbearing age, called sporadic lymphangioleiomyomatosis, presenting with moderate lung disease.

  • To prevent rejection of transplanted kidney(s)
  • To treat sporadic lymphangioleiomyomatosis presenting with moderate lung disease

Contraindications

  • Liver diseases
  • Patients with a high risk of kidney rejection
  • Body mass index higher than 30 kg/m2
  • Allergy to sirolimus or any other components of the medicine

The dosage and duration of Sirolimus Tablet are based on the best judgement of your doctor as per your current health. Do not do any modification to the dosage without consulting a doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew the tablet.

Overdose

Do not take Sirolimus Tablet more than the prescribed dose. An extra dose will not benefit you. In case of accidental overdose, visit your doctor. Overdose may cause atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat).

Missed a Dose

As soon as you recall missing a dose, please take it. If the time to take another dose of your medicine is near, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose.

How Does It Work?

Sirolimus is an immunosuppressant. The medicine acts by controlling the body's immune system and reducing the inflammation that is caused by repeated flareups of autoimmunity.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Rifampin: Can cause decreased levels of sirolimus
  • Ketoconazole: Has an effect on the absorption of sirolimus in the body
  • Voriconazole: Co-administration can cause elevated sirolimus levels
  • Diltiazem: May cause increased levels of sirolimus in the body
  • Verapamil: Simultaneous use can affect both medicine levels (verapamil and sirolimus)
  • Ciclosporin: Increased levels of sirolimus seen after simultaneous use
  • Erythromycin: Increased absorption was noticed of both medicines (verapamil and sirolimus) after simultaneous use

Interactions with food items

Grapefruit juice: Can lead to increased sirolimus levels in the body
