Sertima 50 MG Description

Sertima tablet is a prescription medication used for treating psychological conditions such as major depressive disorder, anxiety-related uses, panic disorders, etc. It has Sertraline as its only act

ive ingredient. It is an antidepressant medication. Managing symptoms of depression before menstruation, social anxiety disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are other uses of Sertima tablets. Depression and other mood disorders affect the behaviour, thought process and lower the quality of life. Sertima tablets help treat depression, mood disorders, anxiety, panic disorders, and other neurological illnesses. It calms excitable nerve cells in the brain and improves mood and memory. There are also many side effects of Sertima tablets, so the medicine must be carefully monitored. Do not change the dosage without consulting your doctor. Also, try not to stop using this medication abruptly. Instead, the dose should be tapered slowly; otherwise, it can lead to unwanted withdrawal symptoms, such as restlessness, palpitations, sleep disturbances, anxiety, etc. Try to take the Sertima tablet in the exact dosage and at the same time every day. This medicine can also cause dependency in some people. Sertima tablet also increases suicidal behaviour in young adults and children.

As per CDSCO and USFDA, Sertima tablet is used in
The management of symptoms of major depressive disorders.
The treatment of a premenstrual dysphoric disorder, depression that occurs before menstruation.
It is also beneficial in treating repetitive thoughts and actions in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
The management of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The treatment of panic disorder and social anxiety disorder (reduces the state of fear).
The management of generalised anxiety disorder.

Contraindications of Sertima 50 MG

Pregnancy

Can I take the Sertima tablet during pregnancy?

Consult your doctor if you are experiencing any mood disorders or depression during pregnancy. Sertima tablets are not recommended in pregnant women, especially in the third trimester. It can increase the risk for persistent pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs) and withdrawal effects in the newborn baby. Other potential toxic effects are premature birth and weight changes in the baby. It is prescribed only when the harmful effects of depression outweigh the risks.

Breast Feeding

Can I take a Sertima tablet while breastfeeding?

You should consult your doctor first before taking this medicine if you are breastfeeding. Studies showed undetectable amounts of it in breastmilk, so it is unlikely to cause severe damage in babies. Still, it is essential to proceed with caution and only use it if the benefits outweigh the risk.

Driving

Can I drive if I have taken the Sertima tablet?

No, it is unsafe to drive after taking the Sertima tablet. This medicine causes drowsiness, dizziness, lethargy, blurry vision, etc., which can impair your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with the Sertima tablet?

No, do not consume alcohol with a Sertima tablet. It increases the severity of effects like drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, lethargy, liver injury, etc. It also worsens the condition of the disease for which you are using this medicine.
