Medical Description

Renedil tablet is used to control high blood pressure and help prevent heart-related chest pain called angina. It contains felodipine, a calcium channel blocker that relaxes the muscles in blood vessel walls. This widens the vessels, lowers the pressure the heart works against and improves blood flow to the heart muscle. In people with angina, better blood flow can reduce chest pain brought on by activity. Renedil tablet is taken by mouth as a whole and used regularly as prescribed, even if you feel well.

Uses

  • High blood pressure: Felodipine relaxes tightened blood vessels, lowering pressure and helping reduce the long-term risk of stroke, heart attack and other circulation problems.
  • Angina prevention: Regular treatment can reduce the likelihood of activity-related chest discomfort in people whose heart muscle does not receive enough oxygen.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use Renedil tablet. This medicine is not a rescue treatment for sudden chest pain. Tell your doctor before using it if you have very low blood pressure, heart failure, a narrowed heart valve or liver disease, because it may not be suitable.

Side effects

  • Fatigue: You may feel unusually tired while your body adjusts to felodipine. Rest safely, and contact your doctor if tiredness is severe or interferes with daily activities.
  • Flushing: The face, neck or upper chest may suddenly feel warm and look red as blood vessels widen. Sit down if flushing comes with faintness.
  • Headache: Wider blood vessels can trigger a throbbing or pressure-like headache early in treatment. Seek medical advice for severe, persistent or unusual pain.
  • Nausea: Felodipine may upset the stomach, sometimes with queasiness after a dose. Get medical advice if vomiting prevents you from keeping the medicine down.
  • Dizziness or ankle swelling: A fall in blood pressure can cause light-headedness, while fluid can collect around the ankles. Sit down if dizzy and report sudden or marked swelling.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Renedil tablet may not be suitable during pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or become pregnant during treatment, so the benefits and risks can be reviewed.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. It is not known whether felodipine passes into breast milk in clinically relevant amounts, so medical advice is needed.

Driving

Driving

Renedil tablet may cause dizziness, especially when treatment starts. Do not drive or use machinery until you know how it affects you.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Alcohol may worsen dizziness or lower blood pressure. Ask your doctor about drinking alcohol while using Renedil tablet.

Directions for Use

Take this medicine as a whole with sufficient water. Do not chew, crush or break the tablet. It may be taken with or without food, but try to take it consistently as advised. Do not stop regular treatment without medical advice.

Storage and disposal

Store Renedil tablet in a cool, dry place below 30 degrees Celsius, away from direct heat and moisture. Keep it out of the reach of children. Dispose of unused tablets safely according to local pharmacy guidance.

Quick Tips

  • Check your blood pressure as advised and keep a record of the readings.
  • Stand up slowly if you feel light-headed.
  • Continue healthy eating, physical activity and any lifestyle plan recommended by your doctor.
  • Avoid grapefruit unless your doctor says it is suitable.
  • Keep taking Renedil tablet regularly even when your blood pressure feels normal.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking too much Renedil tablet may cause very low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting or a fast heartbeat. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

This medicine relaxes the muscles in blood vessel walls, allowing the vessels to widen and blood to flow with less pressure. The lower resistance reduces the work the heart must do and improves blood flow to heart muscle. These effects can help prevent chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Renedil tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, other blood-pressure medicines may lower pressure further; medicines that block liver enzymes, including some antibiotics and antifungal medicines, may raise felodipine levels and side effects; and some seizure medicines or rifampicin may lower its effect.

Interactions with food items

Grapefruit or grapefruit juice can increase felodipine levels and make flushing, headache, dizziness or ankle swelling more likely. Avoid them unless your doctor says they are suitable.
