Medical Description
Rapitus XT syrup is a combination medicine containing acebrophylline, terbutaline and guaifenesin. It is used for relieving chest tightness, difficulty in breathing, cough, wheezing, etc., due to bronchospasm (constriction or spasm in airways) in certain conditions such as asthma or airway infection (Bronchitis). Acebrophylline thins down the mucous and relieves the contraction in the airways. Bromhexine is a mucolytic agent, Guaifenesin is an expectorant and Terbutaline is a bronchodilator. Rapitus XT syrup works by thinning, liquefying and loosening the mucous and makes expulsion easy. It also relaxes the airways and makes breathing easier.
According to the advisory issued by the Union Health Ministry, cough and cold medications should not be prescribed or dispensed to children under two years of age. These medications are generally not recommended for children under five years old. For children above that age, any use should be based on careful clinical evaluation and close supervision.

Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Rapitus XT syrup works by the combined action of its three components and helps in easing the symptoms of bronchospasm (spasm or constriction in airways).
- Acebrophylline has mucoregulatory, broncho-dilating and anti-inflammatory actions. It reduces the viscosity of mucous, relieves constriction in the airway by relaxing the muscles and also reduces the production of chemicals, which plays a key role in airway blockage.
- Terbutaline has bronchodilator properties. It relaxes the muscles of the airways and inhibits the release of inflammation-causing chemical substances. Thereby, it improves airflow to the lungs and helps make breathing easier.
- Guaifenesin is an expectorant; it helps thin the mucous in the airways and makes it easier to cough out and clear the airways.
