Medical Description
Uses
- Ramistar 5 tablet is used for lowering increased blood pressure.
- It is also used to reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke.
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to ramipril, any other ACE inhibitors, or any other ingredient of Ramistar 5 tablet.
- If you have a history of allergic reaction called angioedema (swelling of lips, tongue, throat, itching, red marks on hands and feet).
- If you have taken or are taking sacubitril/valsartan for the management of heart failure in adults. If you are not sure what these medicines are, please confirm with your doctor.
- If you are on dialysis or any other type of blood filtration.
- If you have a condition called renal artery stenosis where the blood supply to your kidney is reduced.
- If you are more than 3 months pregnant.
- If your blood pressure is abnormally low or unstable.
- If you have diabetes or kidney disorder and you are treated with a blood pressure lowering medicine containing aliskiren.

- You have heart, liver, or kidney disorders.
- You have diarrhoea, vomiting, sweating more than usual, on a low salt diet, taking diuretics (water
- tablets) for a long time or having dialysis.
- You are going to have a treatment called desensitization to reduce your allergy.
- You are scheduled for surgery and are going to receive an anesthetic.
- You have high potassium levels in your blood.
- You are taking medicines or have conditions that may decrease sodium levels in your blood.
- You are taking medicines that may increase the risk of an allergic reaction called angioedema.
- You have conditions like scleroderma or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
- You think you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant.
- You are taking any other medicines for treating other health conditions.
Directions for Use
- Ramistar 5 tablet should be taken exactly as recommended by the doctor.
- Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water.
- Do not crush, break, or chew the medicine.
- Do not take more than the prescribed dose.
Storage and disposal
- Store Ramistar 5 tablet below 25°C protected from sunlight and moisture.
- Keep out of sight and reach of children and pets.

- If you missed any dose of Ramistar 5 tablet, take it as soon as you remember.
- If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule.
- Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for a missed one.

Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicines can affect the way how Ramistar 5 tablet works or this medicine itself might affect the working of other medicines.
- Inform your doctor about all the medicines, herbals, or supplements that you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction. Also, you should inform your doctor if you have a planned surgery or vaccination scheduled.
- Particular care should be taken if you are taking medicines called NSAIDs like aspirin (used to treat pain); blood sugar-lowering medicines; valsartan, telmisartan, losartan: angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) (a different class of antihypertensives used for high blood pressure); pregabalin (used to treat pain associated with nerve damage); azathioprine used after organ transplantation, blood thinners like heparin as it may reduce the potassium levels, adn salts containing potassium.
- Amiloride, spironolactone, or triamterene, which increase urine output can increase potassium levels when used along with this medicine.
- Caution should be exercised when using antibiotics like trimethoprim alone or with sulfamethoxazole as it may increase potassium levels.
