Medical Description

Prodel capsule is used for female infertility, hormone replacement therapy, and absent menstrual periods caused by low progesterone in women who have not reached menopause. It contains progesterone, a female hormone that helps regulate the menstrual cycle and prepares the uterus for pregnancy. This hormone thickens the inner lining of the uterus so an embryo can attach and helps maintain a supportive uterine environment when prescribed for early pregnancy. Prodel capsule is swallowed by mouth exactly as prescribed, and a doctor may continue it after pregnancy begins for a specific reason.

Uses

  • Female infertility: Low progesterone can affect the uterine lining and reproductive cycle; this medicine supports conditions needed for an embryo to attach and pregnancy to continue.
  • Hormone replacement therapy: Progesterone helps balance hormone treatment and protect the womb lining when used as part of a doctor-planned menopause regimen.
  • Absent menstrual periods before menopause: When low natural progesterone contributes to secondary amenorrhea, this medicine can help restore menstrual bleeding after medical assessment.

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use it for unexplained vaginal bleeding, active or previous blood clots, severe liver disease, or breast or reproductive-organ cancer unless a specialist advises otherwise. Tell your doctor about migraine, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes, kidney disease, or any hormone-sensitive condition before treatment.

Alcohol

Alcohol may worsen dizziness or sleepiness. Ask your doctor whether it is suitable for you during treatment.

Directions for Use

Take this medicine as a whole with sufficient water. Swallow the capsule without chewing, crushing or breaking it. Use it without food if your doctor has instructed this, because food may increase progesterone absorption. Follow the treatment plan and do not change it without medical advice.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking too much may cause marked dizziness, sleepiness, nausea or abnormal bleeding. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The active hormone progesterone prepares and thickens the uterine lining so an embryo can attach. It also helps regulate the menstrual cycle and may reduce uterine contractions when prescribed to support early pregnancy.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Prodel capsule works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, darunavir, saquinavir and perampanel may change progesterone levels or its effect; mycophenolate mofetil and tamoxifen may change the benefit or suitability of either treatment, so your doctor may need to review the combination.

Interactions with food items

Food may increase progesterone absorption. Use Prodel capsule without food if your doctor has advised this.
