Medical Description

Pacroma cream is a prescription medicine used on the skin (topical) to treat mild to moderate eczema (atopic dermatitis). It is for adults and children aged 2 years and older who do not have a weakened immune system. This medicine is used on the skin for short periods, and if needed, treatment may be repeated with breaks in between. This medicine is for use after other prescription medicines have not worked for you or if your doctor recommends that other prescription medicines should not be used.

Limit your time in the sun during treatment with Pacroma cream even when the medicine is not on your skin. If you need to be outdoors after applying it, wear loose-fitting clothing that protects the treated area from the sun. Ask your doctor about other types of sun protection you should use.

Do not cover the skin being treated with bandages, dressings or wraps. You can wear normal clothing. Continuous long-term use of topical calcineurin inhibitors, including Pacroma cream, in any age group should be avoided, and application limited to areas of involvement with eczema.

Pacroma cream is for use on the skin only. Do not get the medicine in your eyes, nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum (mucous membranes). If you get the medicine in any of these areas, burning or irritation can happen. Wipe off the medicine from the affected area, then rinse the area thoroughly with cold water.

If you have missed the application deadline for Pacroma cream, please apply as soon as possible. Do not overapply this medicine to compensate for the missed application.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Pimecrolimus helps soothe inflammation in atopic dermatitis (a type of eczema). It does this by targeting small cells in your skin called T-cells, which play a significant role in causing redness and itchiness. Pimecrolimus works by essentially "turning off" these T-cells, preventing them from becoming overactive. It also helps reduce the release of substances that cause inflammation from other skin cells, resulting in less irritation and discomfort.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Since Pacroma cream is intended for external use on the skin, it is less likely to interact with other medications. However, it is always advisable to consult your doctor if you are taking other medications to treat other health conditions.
  • Medicines such as erythromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, fluconazole, calcium channel blockers, and cimetidine should be used with caution.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

No, Pacroma cream is a prescription medication and should only be used under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional, such as a dermatologist. Self-medicating with prescription drugs can lead to improper use, unexpected side effects, or worsening of your condition. A dermatologist can assess your specific skin needs, determine whether Pacroma cream is appropriate for you, and provide the correct dosage and usage instructions to ensure safe and effective treatment. Always consult a healthcare provider before starting or changing any medication regimen.

Avoid using any cosmetic products while applying this cream, as it may irritate the skin. It might also affect the activity of the medication.

The dose and frequency of applying this cream will be decided by the doctor depending on the severity of the skin condition. Do not apply more than recommended.
