Medical Description

Nepsic Eye eye drop is used after cataract surgery to reduce eye pain and inflammation and to help lower the risk of swelling in the central retina. It contains nepafenac, an anti-inflammatory medicine for the eye, and benzalkonium chloride, a preservative. Nepafenac reduces the formation of chemical messengers that cause pain, redness and swelling, while benzalkonium chloride helps keep the eye drop free from contamination. Nepsic eye drop is applied to the affected eye only under an eye specialist's advice and should not replace follow-up examinations.

Uses

  • Pain and inflammation after cataract surgery: Nepafenac helps reduce postoperative eye pain, redness and swelling while the eye recovers under specialist supervision.
  • Macular swelling after cataract surgery: Nepafenac may lower the risk of fluid-related swelling in the central retina during postoperative recovery.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use it if you have previously had an allergic reaction to nepafenac or a similar anti-inflammatory eye medicine. Tell your eye specialist if aspirin or another anti-inflammatory pain medicine has caused asthma, hives, swelling or breathing difficulty.

Side effects

  • Blurred vision: Temporary reduced clarity may occur after application. Do not drive until your vision is clear, and seek advice if blurring does not settle.
  • Foreign-body sensation: You may feel as though something is in the eye because the surface is irritated. Contact your eye specialist if discomfort persists.
  • Raised eye pressure: Pressure inside the eye may increase during treatment. Keep follow-up visits and report eye pain, halos or worsening vision promptly.
  • Dry or sticky eye: The eye may feel dry, sticky or uncomfortable after application. Ask for review if irritation, discharge or watering becomes troublesome.
  • Eye irritation: Burning, itching or eyelid swelling can occur as the eye reacts. Stop and seek emergency medical help for facial swelling or breathing difficulty.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Tell your eye specialist if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or could become pregnant. Use Nepsic eye drop only if the specialist decides that the expected benefit justifies any possible risk.

  • Do not share Nepsic eye drop or touch its tip to the eye, lashes or skin.
  • Remove contact lenses before application and ask your eye specialist when they can be worn again.

Dosage

Overdose

If you think you have used too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you miss an application, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one. Do not apply extra product to make up for it.

How does this medicine work?

Nepafenac is changed into an active form in the eye and reduces the release of chemical messengers that cause pain and inflammation. This can ease redness, swelling and discomfort after cataract surgery and may reduce fluid build-up in the central retina. Benzalkonium chloride is a preservative that helps protect the eye drop from contamination and has no separate treatment purpose.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Nepsic eye drop works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, tell them about other eye medicines, other anti-inflammatory pain medicines and blood-thinning medicines, especially around eye surgery.
