Medical Description
Mucinac 600 tablets are a mucolytic agent used to treat respiratory diseases characterised by excessive mucus. It relieves chest congestion or tightness caused by excess mucus in various respiratory tract conditions, including bronchitis, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, and bronchiectasis. Its main component is acetylcysteine.
A few other tablets with the same composition are Effenac 600mg, Mucaryl 600mg, Mucotab Et 600mg, Mucomix Et, and Lumenac 600mg. You may experience drowsiness (use caution when driving) or nausea or vomiting (small, frequent meals may help). This tablet is effervescent in nature and should be taken as directed by your doctor, in the doses and duration prescribed. Do not skip a dose or consume more than the recommended amount by your doctor.
Headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, fever, and skin rashes are a few common side effects that can be seen after taking this medicine. Although not everyone gets them. Side effects often improve as your body gets used to the medicine.
While using this medication, avoid alcohol and other prescription or over-the-counter medications that might cause dizziness. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, and provide your detailed medical history.

- Enhance antioxidant effect to protect the lung tissues.
- Relieve post-surgical lung complications.
- Reduce airway mucus plugs before bronchoscopy.
- Support post traumatic chest conditions.
Contraindications
- Allergy to N-acetylcysteine, or any of the contents of Mucinac 600 tablet.
- Children below the age of 2.
- Pregnant women and children with phenylketonuria.

- If you experience any difficulty in breathing, stop the Mucinac 600 Effervescent tablet immediately.
- Mucinac 600 is not recommended in children under 2 years of age.
- Tell your doctor about any history of gastric bleeding, peptic ulcers, severe kidney or liver disorders before starting treatment.
- Patients with asthma should use this medicine under medical supervision, as it may occasionally cause bronchospasm (tightening of the airways).
- Seek immediate medical attention if you develop a bronchospasm, dyspnoea, pruritus, urticaria, rash, angioedema and tachycardia.
Directions for Use
- Always take this medication according to your doctor's instructions:
- Completely dissolve the tablet in half a glass of water and wait for about a minute and a half to get it clear, stir and drink immediately.
- Complete the prescribed course for optimal results.
Storage and disposal
- Store at temperature below 25°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
- Secure medications in an inaccessible location for children
- Do not use the medicine after the expiry date given on the packaging.

- Attend follow-up appointments if long-term treatment is recommended.

Overdose
- You should follow your doctor's instructions carefully while taking this medication. The recommended dose will depend on your medical condition and response to the medication.
- In case of an overdose, you should seek immediate medical attention at a hospital or contact a doctor. In such cases, prompt symptomatic medical management is essential. Symptoms of overdose may be nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.
